Over 10 years upgraded from M800 to Fiesta SXI and now to Vento.
Have been researching from March this year to buy a new car. It became a hobby to test drive during week ends. Viewed 30GB of reviews on youtube in one month before i firmed up Vento.
Not clear on what i want between Hatchback and Sedan, looked at every thing. Figo, Polo, Swift, Dzire, New fiesta, Verna, Vento, Jetta. one thing for sure, wanted a diesel.
The new Swift was too good, exceptionally good than its competition in hatchback. Waiting period and factory problem was an issure for me.
Dzire was ok with me. But After Sales Service of Maruthi was more cost effective than quality, atleast that was my experience. I could argue with service team to compromise and get away only to feel bad a few days later that i should have shelled out all the monies asked for the comfort. Somehow this soft attitude of service put me in a tight spot not knowing how much to argue with them and how much to compromise. This was not the case with Fiesta where the service folks were clear about changes, nothing called repair. It did hurt my cashflow, but the comfort was as good as the new car.
Figo, Polo were ok for test driving, but i thought to own it after owning Fiesta SXI Petrol, i would not be happy with smaller space.
New Fiesta, Verna, Vento, Jetta were all good to me to drive and ride. But the price for New Fiesta was something i could not reconcile with. I felt it was about 3L more. Verna was also good, but after driving Jetta my likes changed to VW. Now the choice was getting limited to Vento and Jetta. Jetta is a pure pleasure to drive, but could not afford to buy now so had to first get into Vento and keep my aspirations still on Jetta.
Booked my Vento in end Oct and the car was ready to be driven home by mid Nov. I felt sales could have been more better than it was. Had to ask many times to get a test drive of VW.
Exterior Very good, though not a sporty its look has its own charm. could have provided light indicators on the OVRM. Body color reverse parking sensors are good, but wish even mud flaps are available in body color black color take away the beauty. chrome finish door handle would have enhanced the richness. Elegant and muscular looks.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Simple and purposeful. Spacious for all, Very good AC. OK music, could have been better if tweeters and remote were provided. I miss multi CD changer I enjoyed in Fiesta SXI. One touch and remote operation of window is very good.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Its to my liking. Half way through, speed was at 120km on bangalore-chennai high way and this is only so much my mind can process speed so could not test the full speed of car. Not spontaneous to respond, though time lag is noticeable, does not rob away ride quality. Noticed i got 20kmpl (diesel) on highway, was happy to see the reading. Gear box a bit harder compared to my earlier sedan, getting used to this bit of rigidity helps. Reverse gear was something i had to unlearn of the past and learn newly from Vento, after 15 days now, my mind is able to change to reverse gear without any discomfort. At 120km on highway, thought i sometimes experienced mild vibration on the steering.
Ride Quality & Handling Very good. i would move rating to superb if only engine noise getting into cabin is cut off. Ride quality on high way with 100+ or in city at just around 30+ both are equally enjoyable and smooth. A little bit slow to respond when it comes to speed. Functioning of ABS is good.
Final Words Initial experience is good. Meeting expectations till now. good ride quality, very good AC, good Instrument cluster, just loving it
Areas of improvement Eliminate engine noise coming into cabin, provide more Electronics, provide 15 inch alloy wheel for spare too, reposition front arm rest or the hand brake. Need reverse light on both sides cannot accept arguments of European standards for Indian ways of driving.

Bought a vento petrol about 10 months back and since then already had 3 visits to service station and i have hardly covered 7.5K kms. In the very first week after delivery, there were problems with some loose contact on the braking system and i had to take it to service station. Had to spend a day and they fixed the issue.
A few months down the line, there was rattling sound in the cabin. I took it to the service station and spent a day and after multiple attempts they fixed the issue. There was a free rain check up call from VW for A/C cleaning. After that i could see too many issues
When on a long run, the A/C would turn off. The blower would keep running, but there would be no cooling effect. Also, when you switch off the engine and remove the key, the audio system stayed ON. Just two days back, i started getting burning smell from the A/C so i took it to service station today. They did not find the problem with A/C but saw some software errors on their car health checkup machine which they cleaned up.
Not sure if VW is serious on quality in India. Internationally they are renowned for quality - this does not seem to be in line with their image though.

Exterior The clean, simple and timeless design of the exteriors.With addition of black/smoked headlamps now vento looks more aggestive and looks upmarket and luxurious like its elder brother jetta and passat .vento though desgine on polo patfrom but the hole package isnt look like a polo with a boot its a balanced car unlike swift drize ! No nosense cruves and lines just clean simple -Beautiful
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) From the inside car trully seem to be statement of luxury every thing inside is top noch and well crafted .Vento comes with Leather seats ,a quality leather and well fitted .The soft touches of chrome on the interiors. Gives a very premium feel to the car.The new ICE. I’m not a hardcore music guy, so this seems sufficient for me. Of course, i would have hated the earlier system which didn’t even have a USB port!The steering - its super light and a pleasure to drive. Does have audio controls too.beside all Nav system also fitted on windsheld with rear cam option for hassel free parkin-in -out .rear seat is also spacious but more for the two rear passenges ,rear middle hump rear a pain for highway The rear seat comfort (more so with the AC vents) . overall its refects a ture and very erocomic cabin desgin and feel like sitting in audi(probably )
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The 1.6 litre diesel monster. Simply amazing.With 104 Ps power city or highways you never complain of underpower, very effecient and promises to delivery decent figure in fuel economy ( I am getting 22kmpl city uptill now 600km done) Turbo just kick -in between 1.5-2.0 so its hassel free to vroom around city traffic.The noise from the engine. Could have been better insulated.overall vento surely a head turner in city road !!
Ride Quality & Handling The handling is very good not as good as fiat linea but its 2nd next to linea for handling quality .At any speed you never lose confidence ,and at tight cornering vento never let you down. suspension is also excellent in vento not so much soft not so much stiffer side just perfect for indian road conditions.
Final Words volkswagen offers a poor mans audi .sheer pleasure you get from vento every thing is just perfect and the build quality is top notch and best for indian road conditions.True value for money best in its class !
Areas of improvement The noise from the engine. Could have been better insulated. Beige. Beige. Beige. Its all over the place. Although it helps in making the interiors airy and feel big, its a tough thing to maintain. The headlights are inadequate. Need to upgrade on this.may be dual projects headlamps seems excellent .

After sales Services Issues
Issue #1
I felt cheated by purchasing AMC from VW Finance that cost me 19% extra + interest loss against advance payment made to VW Finance and look forward for corrective action / solution from VW Finance team.
I paid, Rs.9372 in whole year for AMC charges and received services only for Rs. 7601/- (19% extra + interest loss)
Background
I purchased AMC (Silver Package) from VW finance for my Vento car at the time of purchase in June 2012. I pay Rs.9, 372 yearly (Rs.781 p.m.) in advance to VW finance team for 3 years AMC charges.
I got my vehicle serviced for 1st year and service center provided services of Rs.7, 601/- against yearly contract (bill attached).
Issue#2
I am disappointed with bias & unpleasant policies for existing customers of Volkswagen. I own a Volkswagen vehicle that cost 10+ lakh on road (VENTO Comfortline-Diesel) since June 2012. I don't have remote controlled central locking in vehicle since that feature was not available at the time of purchase.
Today, Volkswagen is selling remote controlled central locking vehicle (same model) to new customers but that option hasn't been extended to existing customers. Unfortunately, customer can't explore outside options as well due to warranty lock-in.
It’s inconvenient to lock vehicle manually every time you drop out & also surprise to on-lookers, that such high value brand / vehicle don't have mere feature installed.
Issue#3
I purchased Vento comfort line on 24th June 2012 and received AMC document from VM in September 2012. I paid monthly EMIs for AMC services since date of vehicle purchase.
Issue#4
I got delivery of new vehicle on 24.6.2012 and chased dealer's team till end of July for registration file and extended warranty documents etc.
I was disappointed with after sales services & left with unpleasant experience with Volkswagen.
I was concerned, my temporary vehicle registration number will expire in few coming days and every government process takes their due course & own time.
Neither I didn’t get any help from dealer to get vehicle registered, in another city of same state nor received registration file till date to let me pursue self registration with RTO & extended warranty documents.

Exterior
Exterior styling is an individual choice. For me Vento comes with understated styling with less cuts and creases compared to Japanese/Korean models. It is definitely not a head turner but I believe more you look at this car it grows on you. For me it looks more sober on road and it does speak out its presence on road even through it has understated styling.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)
When you get inside this car, you might not get blown away with futuristic design dashboard and equipment level, rather what you notice is plane looks of interiors. This does not mean it lacks features, it has all possible usuable features like automatic climate control, rake and reach steering, trip computer, reverse parking sensors, driver seat height adjust & definitely very good leatherette seats (highline model). Back seat legroom and under thigh support is one of the best in its class. The design of the dashboard is good and an individual can have good road visibility. Every control falls very easily on the hand (only one area you need to adjust is turn indicators & wipers are opposite compared to Japanese & Korean cars). Finally, one of the most reassuring part is once you close the door you will hear a nice THUD sound which is music to ears assuring you are surrounded by good metal body, which is definitely missing in Japanese/Korean/American car manufacturers. Even the plastics used inside is top notch and really screwed well because even after driving 23K Kilometers there is absolutely no rattling sound.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
It has one of the best diesel engines in its class (105 BHP). Engine is so tractable that you can pull in 3rd gear from 20KMPH to 120KMPH easily. Best part of this car is its engine & why not after all it is VW group. I have driven till date 23,000KM and most of my drive is home-office-home & few long highway drives. In town it gives me mileage of 13-14KM/L whereas on highway it gives me 22-25KM/L (@80-100KM/H speed). There is no turbo lag at all and very drivable engine in bumper to bumper traffic or on highways. 5 speed gear box is absolutely fantastic to use & is very sleek.
Ride Quality & Handling
Ride quality is absolutely amazing. In straight line stability no car in its class (Japanese/Korean or American) can match Germans. Vento also performs well on twisty roads with almost no body roll. From handling perspective, steering is quite light in low speeds whereas it weighs up well as you gain speed. Absolutely no complain on ride quality and handling whether you are driving in town or on highways (highway driving in Vento will put smile in your face).
Final Words
I can see lot of people complained about this car but as an owner I have never faced any challenge in service nor in spares. Not sure if some of these comments are unnecessarily exaggerated. For my first service I have spent close to INR 11K, which was done in June 2013. This year also the cost is INR 11.5K (including wheel alignment). This is definitely not expensive in any manner. Secondly, in 2013, there was an issue with AC Flop motor in my car. Air was not getting circulated from central vents. Car was returned back to me in 2 days in perfect condition. Also as the part was under warranty there was no amount I have to pay apart from pickup and drop charges of INR 300.
Areas of improvement
I suggest VW to improve lighting of headlights. Another concern area for me in Apollo tyres which are not of good quality and runs only 35K-40K KMS. It will be good if it comes with Bridgestone factory fitted tyres.

Exterior Height ought to have been better. Rather short. i chose Candy White. This has been liked by others too. However, Vento ought to have been offered in Glacier Blue as in the case of Polo.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Leg room in the rear is excellent. Interior colour choice is very pleasing. Cabin light is good. AC vent in the rear cabin is a very good convenience.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is quite powerful. I drive mostly inside city. Good response in case of emergency. Inside the cabin, the engine is almost noiseless, though outside, the engine sounds rather loud.
Ride Quality & Handling Handles very well on the road, though I have not yet tested at high speeds.
Final Words I did the right thing by rejecting Polo and changing my booking to Vento. The car's quality is a pleasant surprise, though the German fetish for good engineering is well known! Definitely a different experience when compared to driving other Japanese and Korean cars.

Exterior I love its exterior as more mature than honda city, Maruti SX4(opinion of my wife).
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Less stylish than fiat linea,features are equal to any car in this segment, space is less than city, linea(as my wife feels it), it is comfortable for long journey.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Equals to fiat linea, smooth than sx4, city(opinion of my wife)
Ride Quality & Handling More good than honda city and sx4, less than fiat linea, (opinion of my wife)
Final Words Go for it , i have fiat linea, honda city and vw Vento highline petrol too, i find it a bit crampy than city, but more comfortble than honda city, less than linea, if you love german engineered car, go for it, otherwise only fiat linea can match this.
Kindly don't com pare it with Cheap mAruti Sx4 as it is a inferior in quality to this vehicle , same to city, honda does not make more good quality cars than Volkwagen
I have linea(2009), city(2009), and vento(october,2010), but like it a lot, already cancelled the booking of tata indigo manza (As my Wife,Daughter and son said to me, to buy VW Vento).
Areas of improvement New vehicle let critics be flourished in jan 2011.
I tested it giving 12km/liter (empty tank tested twice )

Good , tried driving in bad roads . superb ground clearance , better than honda city . very smooth at high speed . Silent .

Value for money car . at 9.5 lacs the HIGLINE model will give run to Honda City .

Exterior Plain and good.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Fairly good but nothing great. The hump on the floor in the rear is bothersome.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox God know how it will be. Can not rely on their promises.
Ride Quality & Handling Good like any other car in that segment.
Final Words Don't buy cars from this company.
Areas of improvement I booked Vento in Sept 2010 by paying deposit amount based on the promise of delivery by end of October. After one month I am told that my car will be delivered by end of December. Same thing happened with my friend. He was told that his car will be delived after 15th November but he will have to take silver color although he specifically opted for Black color well in advance. May be like their ad in TV they love their cars too much to let them go.
The company which can keep their first promise can not be relied upon to keep other promises of great performance and service.
Generally the car is Ok but nothing to die for.Company does not stand by their commitments so can not be relied upon

Exterior Decent sturdy looks. Isnt as appealing / classy as Linea.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Interiors and quality is pretty decent, but again T-Jet's interior seems and feels better. Leg room might seem (visually) to be slightly more in Vento, but I think that because Vento's seats are not deep and has got lesser under-thigh support. Further there is hugh ugly hump for the drive shaft in middle of the back-seat floor in Vento, thus I would say is for 4 ppl only. Lots of pockets and bottle holders are good. The baige plastics around hand-brakes and door trim etc has cheap look and touch feel. Seats are comfortable, and leather seemed good. Radio had certain noise, as if the reception wasnt great, while I was driving on Santacruz SV road, Mumbai.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox There is slight lag between gear-shifts in Vento and I had to press the pedal to gain power after every change. Though ppl might attribute this to personal driving style, I didnt feel this issue with T-Jet.
Ride Quality & Handling There were also some noice from the rear wheels while going over few pot-holes. Cabin isnt as quite as Linea / Honda City. Steering is very light, but I liked it.
Final Words For 8lacs and 9.4lacs on-road in Mumbai, it seems to be a good package. and you get VW badge.
I would NOT buy the car at the moment, since I am sure there are many niggling issues that needs to be fixed, and VW will come up with Vento 2 or something within 6mths or 1yr.
Also unsure about its maintenance / and spares etc at the moment.
Mileage per liter needs to be checked as well. T-Jet should be giving you better. (check other forums)
Linea T-Jet is better buy (though ~1.5 lacs costlier) - Better turbo engine, good finished product with all niggling issues already fixed. Good tyres, good ride, and tons of features.
Areas of improvement Rear seats can be more deeper to get decent under-thigh support.
Middle rear hump is very ugly and eats up space. VW should do something about this.
Power Lag between gear-shifts.
Price, utility pockets / bottle holder etc in the inside14" regular spare wheel !, ride quality, gear-shift isnt that smooth
