It's been 2 months since I bought this car and there is no looking back!
Having moved to India recently, I had a tough time finding a car that met my needs without ripping me off. The compact cars were off the charts.. and I was looking at C and C+ cars.. though I am A+ (LOL-... the segmentation of cars in India is a whole different chapter).
My choices were limited - Honda City screams.. wanna-be, so that was off the list; Skoda is doing well, but before coming to India, I'd never heard of them, so that was off the list.. I've never fancied Toyota, another down.. I love VW, but they are just entering the market with some ridiculous pricing. I wish the Indian market was more balanced and on par with the overseas markets for brands like Honda, VW, Volvo. These companies have over priced their products in India to such an extent that I am speechless. I've been a Honda CR-V fan in Canada and USA, but with such exhorbitant pricing in India, they've lost me!
That brought my choices to 4. I test drove the Maruti SX4, Honda Civic, Ford Fiesta and Mitsubishi Cedia. In this round of elimination, the Civic and Cedia survived.. in round 2, there were more test drives, discussions and review analysis. While the Civic is a beauty (the interiors beat the Cedia any day), I didn't think it was sensible to pay an additional 4 lakhs to get that dashboard and in the process compromise on other features and performance.. So any guesses there, it was a clean sweep for the Cedia. Of course, I was interested only in the sports version.. I just loved the look.
I am now the proud owner of a Red sports version.. it is definately a head turner. In terms of performance, it has not disappointment me. It picks up speed like crazy... and the feeling of leaving all other cars behind is a feeling unmatched. My favourite feature is the brakes.. in no time, I can halt the car from a crusing speed of 100kms. The seating comfort is great, and getting 5 people in is not a squeeze like some other cars in its class.
I just wish Mitsubishi would add a little zing to the dash board. It defi is very functional but being a female driver I want the zing as well :-)
Mileage wise, I am bordering 9-10kms as a good 5kms of my daily commute is done on the first gear, thanks to the BLR traffic patterns. But no complaints there. I am excited about my first outstation trip in this car, coming up later this month.
I'd read about the pathetic after service from the dealers.. but I must say SOUTHERN MOTORS in Bangalore is fabulous.. their personal touch is great!
For those concerned about the expensive spares, that is Honda's selling point.. but when I asked the Honda sales person for some pricing (just for comparison purposes), there is a negligible difference)..
For all your Cedia lovers, go for it!
Cheers from a KulCEDIAlover.
