Renault India has discontinued its premium SUV, the Koleos. Removal of the model from the company’s website confirms the same. Renault India has also removed its D-segment sedan, the Fluence, from its official website, which too is no longer on sale in the Indian market.
This move doesn't come as a surprise as the Koleos and the Fluence didn't find many buyers in India. Especially in comparison to the recent line-up of products that are heavily localised unlike the former two. Reports had suggested that the carmaker will soon stop selling all completely knocked down (CKD) and semi-knocked down (SKD) cars in the country. Instead it will focus on products that have at least 80 per cent localisation in terms of big vehicles and 95 per cent in case of small cars.
The Renault Koleos was assembled at the carmaker's plant through imported kits. As a result, the SUV was more expensive than its rivals and didn't sell well. Renault will however launch new products in India in the coming years. These new products will include everything from SUVs, hatchbacks and sedans.
