The Ford Mustang is quite a popular model in the Chinese market; however, the sports coupe is reportedly available only as a grey market vehicle. But if a recent report from Car News China is to be believed, the Mustang could soon arrive legally in the locally market.
As per the report, Ford is set to officially bring the new Mustang to China, with a launch scheduled sometime during the first quarter of 2015. A pre-production Mustang GT has even been spotted at a Ford dealer in Beijing, meaning the American carmaker is seriously considering selling the new Mustang under legal terms.
When launched in China, the Mustang will be offered with a choice of three petrol engine displacing between 2.3 and 5.0-litre. The former is Ford’s widely acclaimed four-cylinder EcoBoost engine which develops around 310bhp of power and nearly 500Nm of torque.
Competition for the Mustang in the local market will come in the form of the Chevrolet Camaro which is officially sold in China. The latter, however, only gets a 3.6-litre V6 engine under the hood. The Ford Mustang, then, with its 5.0-litre V8 engine will have a mighty performance advantage over the Camaro when it eventually arrives in the Chinese market. As for the Indian market, Ford has no immediate plans of bringing the new Mustang to India despite the model's immense popularity among muscle car enthusiasts.
