Introduced in Europe in late 2015, the latest-gen Hyundai Tucson will now be offered with a new engine and gearbox configuration. The striking looking crossover, in fact, will be offered with a 1.7-litre diesel engine and a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox option.
The 1.7-litre turbo diesel engine makes 140bhp of power and 340Nm of torque. The 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, meanwhile, is Hyundai’s in-house developed unit which has a claimed 20 per cent higher fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions compared to the old 6-speed automatic gearbox. For further efficiency the new powertrain also comes with stop/start, which is also available for the 1.7-litre (low power), the 2-litre and the 1.6-litre engine options.
The Tucson with this new powertrain option will soon go on sale in Europe. As for the Indian market, Hyundai India is expected to launch it here in the Indian market albeit with a more powerful 2-litre diesel engine. With prices expected to range between Rs 16 to 20 lakh, the new Tucson will be seen competing with the likes of the SsangYong Rexton, Skoda Yeti and the Renault Koleos.
