The upcoming mini SUV from Hyundai, the Kona, was recently spotted again in the capital city of Portugal, Lisbon. The Kona is a new i20 based SUV and will make its debut first in the European markets.
The Kona has adapted new styling bits from Hyundai – like the LED unit for the headlamps which give the car a distinct look. The images indicate that the vehicle will be a little longer and wider than the i20. The body cladding and the chunky roof rail cannot be mistaken for anything else other than a cross-over – as seen in the shots. The rear sports similar design to that of the i20, but with contrast coloured cladding in order to display the SUV look of the car.
There are no shots of the interior yet, but the vehicle will carry the same Hyundai philosophy in the design of the dashboard. Many bits and features are expected to be carried over from the i20 whereas the i30 will provide inspiration for the drive train and other underpinnings. The 1.0 T-GDI three-cylinder and 1.4 T-GDI gasolines are developed for the European market, as is the well-known 1.6 CRDi turbo diesel, which will also make its way under the hood of the Kona
After its debut, the Kona will be competing against the likes of Nissan Juke, Suzuki S-Cross and the Mazda CX-3. In the Indian market, these vehicles would be categorised in the C+ segment where the Hyundai already offers the Creta and the Tuscon.
