The Central Government has said that it will make changes to the laws relating to cars plying on alternate fuels. This is in an attempt to bring them on par with international standards said Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to a group of delegates during a seminar organised by the BJPs non-conventional energy cell.
Speaking at the seminar, the minister said that India was currently importing fuel and edible oil worth six lakh crore and Rs 800 crore respectively bringing on the need to find alternate fuel sources.
There is a need to diversify agriculture and make better use of waste lands in villages, he said and added that ethanol, a major component in bio-fuel, could be made from different sources. He also said that biomass could be used to produce bio-digester CNG.
We have many natural resources at our disposal and it almost seems natural that bio-fuels should become the next major thing in India. However, the important factor in this will always be cost, both for production and to the consumers.
