Ford India has initiated a recall of its top-selling models Figo and the Classic (previously known as the Ford Fiesta Classic) due to suspected issues in the rear twist beam of the suspension and power steering hose.
In an official statement, the automaker said it was recalling all cars manufactured between September 2010 and February 2011 to replace the power steering hose. The problem had been identified as the potential for the PAS hose to develop an oil leak. This could result in the emission of hazardous fumes. The statement added that there was also a possibility for the steering fluid to come in contact with the exhaust, possibly leading to fumes or a fire.
For all Figos and Classics manufactured between January 2008 and December 2010, the rear twist beams (RTB) will be replaced if found defective after an inspection. The problem has been identified as a potential crack, for which signs are an abnormal sound from the rear, said the statement. Over the long term, this could result in a failure and render the vehicle inoperable.
