As we begin March, we are also close to the end of the fiscal year. Every manufacturer is enthusiastically sending out sales report and here we have something interesting. While Ford is headquartered in USA, its Indian made Figo hatchback is the best-seller in South Africa.
India made Figo 1.4 Ambiente was South Africa’s most purchased variant according to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers. But, South Africa’s best-selling car for 2013 is the VW Polo but in terms of variant sales classification the Figo 1.4 Ambiente leads.
The Figo Ambiente is the base variant in SA, it comes with dual airbags, ABS, EBD, audio system with Bluetooth and auxiliary input and retails for 131,500 South African rand (Rs 7.5 lakh). The best-seller is powered by the 1.4L Duratec petrol (found in the old fiesta 1.4) producing 83hp and also a 1.4L diesel engine. The gearbox is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The car is offered with a four year/12,000 km warranty and a five-year corrosion warranty in South Africa.
The Figo 1.4 Ambiente sold 12,373 units in 2013, trumping its closest rival VW Polo Viva hatch 1.4 base by 436 units.
