The Figo is a competent hatchback, yes, but it is due for a major update, and it looks like there will be one as soon as next year. The 2014 Figo is apparently under development, according to the folks at Car and Driver Brazil, and will take forward the EcoSport's look.
The Figo will share the new Fiesta and EcoSport's design on the inside as well as the outside, which should help sales - the current Figo is really functional but the age is now showing. It will have engines similar to the EcoSport, with the 1.0-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel.
However, we expect the petrol not to have a turbocharger for the Indian market, as the focus will be more on a great starting price and good fuel efficiency, rather than high power figures. The diesel will be an updated version of the Duratorq present in the Fiesta.
The new Figo (speculative rendering used as picture) will also spawn a compact sedan, as this is a growing segment globally. This will mean the end of production of the Classic, as the new sedan will plug the gap between the Figo and the EcoSport. We expect the sedan to go on sale a year or so after the hatch does. The new hatch should launch in India by the end of 2014, and we expect it to be much better than the current Figo; it will certainly be more desirable.
