Finally drove the XUV500 after much waiting and chaos at the NBS Showroom in Mumbai. It was late on a weekday evening and was a bit nervous as the home going traffic had filled the streets.
Sat in a strong position, drivers seat offering right amout of lumbar support and enough knee room for my legs which were strained from driving our Ford Fiesta. A quick turn of the chunky key (which opens like a switch blade) and the engine comes to life. Sounded good, nice throaty grunt and quick slip into the gears and we were off. No Diesel lag and no clatter. Gear shifts were smooth though long and the clutch did not feel heavy like the Scorpio. My friend who owns a Scorpio has warned me of that and the seating ergonomics which has given him a slip disc.
The XUV drove well, enough feel and steering felt right. The technology was simple to use and I remember reading somewhere people wanting better quality of the plastics and the buttons/ switchers. After playing over 20 lacs for those cars, I would have that on my wish list too. But at about Rs. 14 lacs on road in Mumbai for the W8 version, I was not complaining at all...I don't want the sun roof or the reversing camera. I would have loved to have a electronic seat adjustment though, but at the price, I don't wanna complain.
As the waiting was heavy, the test drive was shared with a simple looking broker type of a gujrathi gentleman, but when he took the wheel, he was anything but that. Talk about Jykle & Hyde, he turned into a maniac and the company person in the car was very, very scared. So much scared that he offered to sit behind and push me upfront.
But the car never lost control and behaved itself nicely. It found its way between taxi's and buses and given its size, a lot of other small cars gave way nicely to it. Finally, we reached the showroom and got down with all our hairs standing up and the gujrathi gentleman was extremly impressed with the car. I think he booked the car 20 mins before we did and we now hear it has a 5 month waiting. I hope its not an artificially created one and generating more hype than necessary. At the end of the day, having paid the money, M&M should know that. "a bird in hand is worth two in the bush".

Went for a Test Drive at Global Gallerie in Panvel (Navi Mumbai) on 8th Oct 2011. Had visited the showroom on 6th Oct however the showroom was flooded with enequisitive people. So decided to come on a relaxed day for the TD. Spent a good 20 mins (10 Mins Drive & 10 Mins Discussion inside the SUV)
Exterior Impressed with the design. Must say better than any Indian SUV. 1st Step towards creating designs that will be accpected globally. (Heard that many folks who have booked other SUV's have now booked this GIANT). Front Grill Looks very masculine though there seems to be some scope of improvement but a good attempt.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Plastic used should have been of a better quality. A music buff like me cannot place a WOOFER & AMP as there's no space for. Sacrifice the last row & you have space for everything. Liked the way the Body flows from start to end. Rear View Camera can be fitted at an extra Cost. None of the models come with CHROME finish and they have to be purchased seperately.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Gear Shift was good (I drive a Honda so cant compare) & needs to improve. Fuel Economy should be between 8-10kmpl. Engine was peppy & responsive & did like the Roaring sound (they should have used the Lion instead of a Cheetah) when pushed for acceleartion.
Ride Quality & Handling No Complaints here.
Final Words Already booked it. M & M have also got a good range of accessories to complement this Mean Machine.
Areas of improvement Missing floor mats ( u have to buy them seperately) , Gear Box, Plastic Quality, Some space in boot to place hi end music accessories.

So, I bought this XUV 500, W8 FWD in July 2012. Now, the car has 1100 kms and already got problems with suspension, and there was noise inside the cabin. First, I tried to book an appointment and that took 2 days. I received several calls and SMSes telling me the name of my relationship manager. So, I tried to call him on Saturday, and he told me someone will call me back in few mins, this never happened, I called him few times and he always told me that. So, that day, I didn’t manage to get appointment. I called him again next Monday morning, and he passed me onto someone and I finally got the appointment next day. I brought the vehicle next morning, the supervisor told me I will get the car same day evening, I called in the evening, he told me, he will deliver the car next day. Next day, I called him in the afternoon, he said my vehicle is ready and I can pick it up, I went there, he asked for 5 mins. Of time which is always 15 mins. After that, he brought the paper to cashier, and cashier was not there, this again took 20 mins. The cashier spotted something was missing, the supervisor tried to close the case but he did some mistake. He was asking me for another 20 mins ( which would mean at least an hour) and I had enough of it. I left. No one called me that day. I sent an email to customer care and xuv sales department, next day, my relationship manager called and told me he will fix the vehicle and send across the same day and also, that while taking the vehicle out of car shower, they were putting a dent and he will also fix that. I called the manager in the evening, he told me my vehicle is ready and I can come and pick it up, I told him I will never visit workshop, he should send it over unless he wants to keep it, he said he will get back to me. He never picked up his phone after that. Today, I sent an email again to the customer care and xuv sales, the supervisor called me in the morning and told me he will deliver the vehicle before 5 pm, I asked him if I have to call him again or follow to which he said no, I don’t have to. And on top of it, he told the vehicle is still not fixed, he got the part and he will fix it today. Now, there is no sign and it’s 4th day, my car is laying in their workshop, taking car shower and resting, because I was driving it too much. Can you imagine? Would you still like to buy a car that has already problem with in the first month of purchasing and it takes more than 4 days to repair it and even no one is answerable or care about how many days it takes. People – go ahead and buy another company vehicle, my previous experiences with Tata, Ford, Hyundai and Chevrolet, no matter how big the problem was, the vehicle was delivered the same day and it was ready when they called me, I just needed to pay and drive. So, you pay more than 15 lacs to test this vehicle, and you spend your time bringing the car to workshop, and when they tell you it’s ready, and you go there to pick up and find out it’s not ready. So, in all, it’s a big loss to buy this car, first you spend so much money in buying, second you spend your time testing this car, third, you spend time in repairing it, fourth, most of the time, this car is going to be in garage. Imagine, within one month, it’s 4 days in workshop and I am still counting and that too, after two emails to customer care. My Advice, just don’t buy it, if you do buy, ask for money to test it, that your time is more precious than this car that Mahindra wants you to pay for testing.

Dear Sir,
This communication is regarding poor performance or faulty vehicle of Mahindra XUV 500. I had purchased Mahindra XUV 500 on 28/05/2012. This vehicle was required to be sent for repair every week or in 15 days. This vehicle is in warranty. Many time guy from dealership came and took the vehicle by Crain. I had called customer service several times. Unfortunately, there was no satisfactory response from customer service. I was also told that my personal relationship manager, Mr. Sunil Rathor form Shiv Automobiles, Ghaziabad. Still, there was no favourable response.
My car took by Shi Durga Automobiles, 55, Rama Road, N Delhi on 28 May 2014 form Hotel Maurya Sheraton, New Delhi and delivery date is 29th May 2014 but I did not received vehicle and dealership not pick up my phone. I do not know where is my car?
I was receiving calls from customer care to know my satisfaction level about my vehicle. How could I tell them about my satisfaction level when I was running here and there to receive my vehicle?
I’m hugely disappointed and cursing my decision to buy Mahindra vehicle. I’m losing my sleep over my bad decision. This case has caused me huge depression and increased blood pressure. Even my family is repenting over this decision of buying Mahindra vehicle. I also loose my business due to vehicle around Rs. 50lacs. I’m also contemplating taking legal action against Mahindra after consulting lawyers.
Experience of after sales service and maintenance of Mahindra, I have decided to not to buy Mahindra vehicle again in my life and also desist others from buying. After warranty I do not tolerate the running cost of this vehicle.
I’m less than hopeful that you would pay due attention to my grievances. Kindly return my money I do not need this vehicle.

Mahindra XUV 5OO is means to deceive the public that it is a premium SUV. The vehicle has a very poor electronic package installed in it. The electronics will fail within a few weeks of using the vehicle. The after sales service and the authorized dealer (Bhasin Motors Delhi) are ill equipped and incompetent to respond to the consumer's grievances.
My Mahindra XUV 5OO W8 met with an accident on 6.01.2013. It has been in the workshop eversince as Mahindra and Bhasin are not able to repair it. Moreover, the airbags are a sham as none of them ever deployed during the accident. The company is deceiving the public by marketing it as a premium SUV with superior safety features, whereas, none exist.
I had purchased the vehicle in May 2012. The XUV had a series of electronic failures during the first few feeks of usage. The wipers stopped working. Thereafter the brakes were completely worn out by the 2nd month. I only use the vehicle for city driving. Then the overhead glass ware compartment began geeting filled with water as the water used to seep in from some crevices. The headlisghts ceased to function by the 4th month. The fuse was blown.
The entire experince has been nothing short of a night mare and I would sincerly urge any potential Mahindra purchasers that they should refrain from purchasing the junk and spend their valuable money on a more rewarding vehicle.

Exterior Styling and exteriors are un matched, I have driven the car in tier 2 cities of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamilnadu and it’s a head turner!!! People are curious to stop you and ask for feedback, this car has generated tremendous amount of interest and curiosity across and Mahindra has done great job in positioning this car and out pricing the competition. If you are looking for a car in Rs.15 L category, this car is a serious contender.
XUV has gadgets that are unmatched in its own and higher segments.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Bluetooth connectivity , infotainment system , rear A/c , Hill decent control , cruise control, auto head lamps , rain sensing wipers , voice command etc. are some of the feature which you don’t find in Fortuner , Endeavor, Captiva etc.
Performance : Engine is good but not great ,bit of turbo lag between 1st and 2nd gear but it is something you will get used . I felt the engine noise is far less compared to Innova and Fortuner. With A/c and Music on you don’t hear much of cabin noise. XUV has great stability at high speeds , you won’t feel the vibration even at 180+, steering is precise without much of a feedback and vehicle responds well even when you are cornering at speeds in excess of 120+.
Mcpherson suspension, you will need to get used this suspension , again this is not great but not bad , check it out with nitrogen filled tires and 5-6 people inside the car , you shouldn’t have much complaint.
Interiors Quality of plastic is not great- something that Mahindra needs to work on keeping the cost barriers in mind , center consol is made very well and you certainly get the look of a cock pit. In addition you have acres of space inside the first two rows and last row space is not great but not bad either.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Milage in city with bumper to bumper traffic its giving a milage of 10 but on highways , it returned a milage of 17.5 , ( car was driven between 80 to 100 kmph) and 15.5 when (car was driven at speeds of 120 to 140 kmph) , this is definitely good mileage for the car of this size
Ride Quality & Handling NA
Final Words Finally what makes this car a clear winner over the competition is the VFM , at 15.02 laks on road in Bangalore , with size , space , looks and performance , XUV is a winner by far. Well done Mahindra !!

Mahindra XUV 500 looks good at the sides and not at the front or at the back. The M&M engineers have to think about it in immediate future. Ground clearance good but can be much more better.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)
Good interiors, nice looking
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
mHawk engine is always good in Scorpio, the same is with XUV 500. The engine has been tuned to have more power. Fuel economy can be more and near to 20 km/litre as is the case with its competitors like the new Renault Duster.
Ride Quality & Handling
Good, but can be refined further more
Final Words
Overpriced, bad in Suspension, but feature rich like ABS, AirBags, Bluetooth Connectivity, GPS,FM/AM Radio, Powerful engine, etc.,
Areas of improvement
1. Very Urgent is SUSPENSION 2. Back and Front looks 3. Gear shift to be made much more smooth 4. No extra bulging like swift at the sides 5. Distance between the driver seat and the driver side passenger seat shold be more as in Scorpio 6. The height of the vehicle can be more so that it looks gigantic like Scorpios or Xylos.
Drivabilibity, Side Looks, Monocoque body, Features embeddedSuspension very poor, Less Height compared to Scorpio, Back looks poor, Gear shift not refined

Exterior Awesome,gvs monster luk.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) INTERIORS,gud to luk at nd features provided also fine but material used s very poor.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine performing fine ,but brakes r very poor nd handling s also not fine.
Ride Quality & Handling Ride s smooth, but i faced major problem in its WINDSHIELD GLASS WHICH BROKE UP ON ITS OWN VD HAIRLINE IN TWO ROWS,I COMPLAIND DS AT KS MOTORS AUTH CENTRE JAIPUR 7 DAYS AGO STILL WAITING FOR CO REPLY.
Final Words CO. must gv favourable reply to my complaint at earliest, already 7 days delayed, failing which i ve to take shelter f forum.
Areas of improvement Co must improve quality of material as future market is very compitive as so many multinational co cars r bout to touch indian roads, failing which dey may drag u out mahindra,i respect and support our indian co.but no compromise n quality and service regard.so MAHINDRA TK SUITABLE ACTION BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.

I have the XUV for 5 weeks now and I have already visited the dealership multiple times to get problems fixed. Personnel at India Garage, Mysore are courteous and have addressed all problems so far. However, the fact that I have to take a brand new vehicle to the dealership so many times is discomforting.
1. Wheels not aligned and not balanced - Within the first 600 kms, I realized the wheels were not aligned and un-balanced, since the vehicle kept dragging to the left and would wobble. Dealership fixed it, but definitely a surprise for a brand new vehicle.
2. Crashing noise in second gear - sounded like two metal parts were rubbing against each other. The noise vanishes once you gain speed. Took it to the dealership, took the mechanic for a test drive. He was able to experience the problem as well, but couldn't identify the root cause. They have done a transmission oil flush and the problem seems to have subsided. However, I will have to watch for it, for few more days.
3. Vehicle wobbles in second gear - this happens occasionally. Got tyres rotated. Problem has subsided, but still lingers.
4. Inside rearview mirror kept falling off - India Garage guys fixed it easily with fevikwik :). Good God, Pidilite makes quality products, unlike Mahindra.
5. Whistling noise when I hit the gas pedal (accelerator pedal). To me, it appears the silencer is leaking. But the dealership thinks it is the turbo. Will drive for few more days and see.
XUV is a sturdy vehicle and has excellent road grip. It offers tons of features, not found is most other SUVs available in India. However, it appears Mahindra has compromised on quality, to get in all the features at that price point. Quality of the vehicle is much much more important than its features.
The ride quality isn't good on bumpy, pot holed roads. XUV just throws off passengers seated in middle and third row seats. Of course, the road grip is great even at 140 kmph. But, there are very few roads in India where one can maintain that speed for a major stretch of journey. Most roads barely have asphalt left on them after a rainy season.
I can't help compare the ride quality and driving experience to an Innova and a Honda City since I get to drive them as well, frequently. Innova is a closer competition to XUV and definitely handles the ubiquitous pot holes and bumps much more gracefully than the XUV. Overall, Honda comes out on top, in terms of quality of the vehicle and driving experience; no wonder Honda vehicles are world class. In spite of Toyota's quality problems in the US last year, Toyota vehicles are way ahead of Mahindra.
Though XUV is loaded with features not found in most other vehicles in Indian auto market, the "value for money" feeling quickly evaporates once you find out quality was compromised. Mahindra has a long way to go in making quality automobiles that are globally competitive.
