Car of 9years with 103,000 on ODO now!
Bought the car in 2005 immediately after the launch. Has never given me any trouble other than periodic maintenance, and replacement of shock absorbers (due to many trips on spoiled Ghat roads).
Exterior
Is plain looking, though the most recent models have some character. My car has withstood the vagaries of weather very well, though has a tendency to pick up scratches.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)
The interior is still as solid as new, doesn't even squeak! Plush though a bit plain. I have put top of the line music system and navigation unit. Mid seat houses 3 comfortably.
My kids have enjoyed sleeping in each row for all these years, now they have out grown the seats!
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
Very torquey engine for city driving. However, I wish Toyota had an automatic option. I guess they want to push people wanting automatics to Fortuner.
Gives me 10kmpl in city and about 12 on high way now.
Ride Quality & Handling
Takes bad roads without any complaint. Drives like a car even though it is a ladder frame chasis and rear wheel drive! Can push it around a bit, but certainly not as fun to drive as a sedans.
This car is a mile muncher. Is happy on the highway, and its reliability allows you to take it anywhere. Break distance isn't too good, so got to be careful in high speeds.
Final Words
There isn't an equivalent car in its class or price range. Simply the best to buy for a family. Only crib would be the fuel economy, which is lesser than the rivals like Ertiga/Mobilio etc. But, then their build quality is no where close to this one, as is their weight.
