This Indian version of fortuner is neither a compct SUV like RAV4 nor a large size SUV like LAND CRUISER200 or SEQUOIA but it is a NEW CONCEPT SUV .It has balance of URBAN IMAGE and to be RUGGED and TOUGH. It seems that it is an economic version of Land Cruiser PRADO . And yet it is more refined , stylish and beautiful than Prado and that too with without any compromise in ruggedness , power and strength !
In some southeast asian markets the Landcruiser Prado is offered with simlar 3. 0 litre diesel engine (1KZ-TE) which has output of 178PS(131KW) which is just 7PS more than Indian fortuner.(fortuner has 171PS) but has the same Torque of 343Nm (fortuner also has torque of 343Nm ).The body dimensions , suspension , gearbox etc are also very much close to that of Fortuner. But the fortuner is more than 40% cheaper than Prado ! Of course Prado has rear ventilated disc brakes where as Fortuner has rear drum brakes.But still the fortuner is much more cheaper.
The noise and vibration reducton technology is amazing. Moreover this D-4D diesel engine of fortuner has a pleasing sound frequency. When one is on a very long drive this feature makes a huge difference.You never feel that your car has a diesel engine. In the Mid size category the fortuner is the best all purpose SUV in Indian market. I will be able to share more information after I have had test drive.
