Exterior Its a very stylish car which has a BIG stance, yet avoids the overtly aggressive look. The D pillar design and overall contouring give it the looks of a very high end SUV.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The interiors are very premium with the RX 7 . Holds its own vs any Premium+ SUV . The features are unbelievably rich - be they safety related, seat settings or simply advanced stuff like auto head lamps and wipers. The front seats are simply very luxurious and row 2 is very comfortable and roomy too. the III row is for 'within city' short rides really.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Its a very powerful engine with loads of torque. The most comfortable ride you can get with bumps and potholes all taken in stride. The 5 cyl in-line engine is a real performer with no hiccups whatsoever.
In start and stop traffic, the engine is noisy if you suddenly step on the accelerator. Having driven a few hundred km, the reason seems clear: its the transmission which takes a bit of time to let go of a gear position to move from gear 1 to 2 to 3 and therefore the sound. Once over 35 kmph (say in 3-4 seconds), the sounds recedes into a smooth and reassuring hum thats not audible anymore. If you move the position to manual, there is no problem.
Ride Quality & Handling Super smooth and luxurious. The steering while a trifle on the softer side is perfect for civilised driving and cruising. Could be an issue for acrobatics on the road I guess.
Final Words A very good car - this is my 3 rd SUV in 6 years.
Areas of improvement The transmission could be improved for sure in the AT version that is. Row 3 can be more practical.
