The Toyota Taisor is the carmaker's latest offering based on the Maruti Fronx. Though the two have cosmetic differences, the body shell, equipment, and powertrain options remain the same. Toyota and Maruti Suzuki's collaboration isn't new and cross-badged products are sold successfully across India. With the sales accomplishments of the Fronx, Taisor is also set to duplicate the success. But does it replicate the real-world mileage too? We find out.
Engine options of the Taisor and Fronx
The new Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx share the same engine and gearbox options. This includes the 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine and the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol mill. We are comparing the latter which produces 99bhp and 147Nm of torque and comes mated to either a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission or a five-speed manual gearbox we sampled. The ARAI-rated mileage in the Fronx is around 21.5kmpl, whereas for the Taisor it has not been specified. Let's see how they fare in the real world.
City mileage
Our mileage test required both the Fronx and the Taisor to be taken on the same route around the same time during the day. The Fronx returned 14.3kmpl while its MID showed 15.2kmpl. On the other hand, the same version of the Taisor achieved 14.72kmpl in the real world, while its instrument cluster displayed 15.3kmpl.
Highway mileage
On the highway, the Taisor had a bit of resistance from heavy rainfall while the Fronx was testing in clear weather. However, other conditions remained the same with the route also being the same. Interestingly, the Taisor with a real-world mileage of 18.68kmpl still came close to the tested fuel economy of the Fronx of 19.1kmpl. The instrument cluster on both displayed 21-22kmpl and with a tank of 37 litres, above 500km of driving range is easily attainable in both cars.
