Exterior I feel the new model is much better when compared with old wagon R especially early launch models. The side looks are great, styling of head & tile lamps are modern but I don't see any additional benefit with the blue eye (at front headlight area). It may look good with complete blue color paint but not with other colors.
CNG tank has been fitted at back; the parcel tray at the top of it completely covers the tank so that it will not disturb overall styling of the car. In fact you never know there is a tank at the back until you open the back dicci door. The chrome plate design with Wagon R name above the number plate gives more stylish look for back view.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The car has plenty of space on the inside. Coming to head, leg space I believe 70% people will give positive votes on this, tall people like me can sit comfortably. Even if you push the front seats completely back, 3 passengers at the back can sit comfortably with good leg space. Personally, I didn’t see this at i10 and Santro. Another good feature is wide opening doors, old people can step out from car with ease. Dashboard design is nice. AC performance is really good; car can get chilled within 5 min even with 38-40 degrees of temperature at outside.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Maruthi WagonR CNG comes with K10 engine (998 CC) same engine used in new Alto K10. Initially car starts, moves with petrol and after that it automatically switches to CNG mode. Switch controls given to change these modes. If you completely dry with petrol, you can start the car with CNG but this should be used in emergency condition only. No hassles in changing the gears, very smooth. You can feel this comfort in heavy traffic conditions.
The most important factor is, fuel economy 2 times I had tested in CNG it is giving me around 22-24 with AC in city conditions (company says 26th with standard test conditions). Total CNG tank capacity is 10 lts. (Maruthi said 60 lts of water capacity). Once you fill the tank you can go 220KM without stop. So I am more than happy person.
Ride Quality & Handling Running the car in petrol mode is very good I mean pickup. Universal truth is engine power will be shared when you switch on the AC. Car was sluggish CNG with AC. same with petrol. Particularly in uphill areas, you can feel the difference. Generally in city conditions it is OK. I don’t know the technical term for car suspension, but it has good suspension system than I ever feel. Even in bumpy roads car crawls very smoothly. You can hardly feel trembling. To be frank I never crossed 85 KMPH so I cannot say the ride quality at higher speeds. Another good feature is 4M turning radius, very very very useful for narrow turns especially in city conditions.
Final Words It is a good family car, this is the only car which suits to my requirements (refer to my above post for list of my requirements). In general if you are looking at better mileage, good comfort, and less maintenance you can go for this. When you compare with petrol price CNG is now only 40Rs perLt. More over you are serving to our mother nature with Blue Eyed “Green” Boy.
Fuel economy, ComfortNo Luggage space at back, little powerless when running on CNG with AC, Interior.
