I started my hatchback diesel search 6 months back (in the mid of 2012). At that time I finalised Ritz Vdi. (The price was around 6.5 Lakhs). I like Ritz due to it's famous diesel engine and tall boy design. Ruled out other cars at that time because of the following reasons
1. Figo - Heard little ground clearance issue and mileage slightly low (still it's a VFM), Little expensive on maintenanace compared to Maruti
2. Liva - Exteriors and interiors look bit cheaper making a feel not safe. Live diesel variant is not upgraded with good interiors like Diesel version. Company may not concentrate on diesel variant. Even some features like 60:40 split seat and alloy wheels missing from top variant
But now after Ritz facelift launched it costs 6.95 Lakhs. Touched almost 7 Lakhs and made me to re-consider my decision. Fuel efficiency is increased, backseat got lumbar support and Steering adjustment added. Following are the negatives I felt
1. Price is high without having inbuilt music system and optional ABS safety feature even in mid variant
2. The pathetic thing is even the body colored handle and OVRM also turned into Black for new Vdi.
3. The great Maruti is still not giving even corporate discount or any other discount even i asked many times.
4. The rear seat leg room is not better compared to Liva, Punto etc.
Then in my mind currently Punto, Liva and newly launched Sail came for consideration.
Punto absolutely is a perfect package of features and brilliant design. Even a very safe vehicle (Euro NCAP 5 rating). But marketing and maintenance not good.
Liva as said earlier it's a practical vehicle for India considering mileage and T badge, but not the current available variant due to poor exterior and interior (build quality)
Sail - The only car not test driven yet but seems to be pleasing since we can believe in Chevrolet and the space, mileage, features and it's success in China make me to think. Once finalised will inform more.
Areas of improvement If Maruti re-considers pricing by understanding global players competition, and to match the features & quality then only they can continue doing well. Otherwise they are going to lose the league soon!
1. Maruti A.S.S 2. Proven Engine 3. Tall boy design 4. Fuel efficiency1. Features (ABS+Music system missing on mid variant) 2. Space in rear seat
