I had been planning to buy a replacement for my old Esteem since an year. I was not sure what to go for.. i had to choose between Xylo, Innova & Tavera as I wanted a car which would be ideal for everything, would be rugged & luxurious at the same time.
Although, i didn't consider fuel economy initially, the good mileage that Xylo gives has made me quite happy. Xylo has really innovative and convenient features which I am attached to, now, especially the flat-bed seats, which is the most luxurious feature I've seen in an Indian car. I didnt like the looks of the Xylo in pictures but in reality it looks beautiful & sporty at the same time. I dont like the rear part though. Sides have a step to help get comfortably in and out of the car. Its a tall & a HUGE car which makes it extremely spacious. The audio system is average but the only drawback is that to get into the last row i have to fold the middle row seat, it cannot be done while driving.
The boot is helpful only when the seats are folded. The car has been pretty well built and I feel it when I'm driving. I did take some time to learn driving through corners as I was used to the small esteem. the plastic quality is average but I'm not complaining since its not a BMW or something :)
The Engine is very powerful, silent & efficient so the Xylo accelerates smoothly. Gear shifting could be better. The parking assist device is brilliant and very helpful. The steering control is decent. Also being a Mahindra vehicle, its very good offroad too, which was expected.
The ABS is a great addition and has improved the braking feature.
The 2.5 litre m-hawk engine feels much more powerful than the Innova (yes, i test-drove it too) Engine response is good maybe because Mahindra has been making some diesel engines of late. it gives a mileage of 13kmpl even in difficult conditions which was a pleasant surprize..
To conclude, Xylo stands for Luxury, performance & versatility as it is an MUV after all. Although I wish I had waited since I heard they have just lauched a new variant with Airbags. also I have to say that what made me finalize my decision is that the top E8 Version is 3 lakhs cheaper than the top end Innova!
