If you are in the market for a petrol D-segment sedan, the Elantra should be on top of your list. Much cheaper than the Octavia and Corolla, the Elantra is a very underrated car. It is a no-nonsense premium sedan with loads of features. In the automatic guise, the car is a perfect city machine. Don't expect too much in the way of handling, while engine performance is robust though not thrilling. The car is a very neutral handler and has no nervousness like previous gen Hyundais. Does well on the highway. Can cruise effortlessly all day.
Those who are planning on the auto, be wary of the less-than-stellar city mileage. In peak Bangalore traffic, it squeaks out 6-7 kpl. But given its Atkinson cycle engine, on highways cruise between 90-100 and it gives up to 15 kpl. Anyway maintenance and spares are not an issue thanks to Hyundai. You will be satisfied with the ride, even though it does feel a little light. Let's just say, it feels nimble.
One more thing of note, I was pleasantly surprised at the ground clearance. In the horrible crater-like roads of Bangalore, the Elantra barely breaks a sweat - as good as any sedan.
This is an ideal upgrade for the Honda City loving folks. Just effortless. Fantastic refinement.
Best thing is, it has features standard to 40L cars.
Pros - Mind-boggling feature list, great looks, quality interior, robust engine performance, city ride quality, Hyundai aftersales and service, effortless auto gearbox, drive modes
Cons - Boring handling, build a little on the lighter side, sub-par tinny speakers, city mileage

Buying Experience
Purchasing the 2018 Hyundai Elantra Diesel was a straightforward and pleasant experience. Hyundai dealerships are known for their customer-centric approach, and this was evident from the moment I entered the showroom. The sales team was professional, well-informed, and patient, ensuring all my questions were answered without any pressure to close the deal quickly. Financing options were clearly laid out, and the entire process, from selecting the car to finalizing the paperwork, was handled smoothly and efficiently.
Driving Experience
The 2018 Hyundai Elantra Diesel offers a satisfying driving experience. The 1.6L turbocharged diesel engine provides a robust 126 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque, delivering a surprising punch for a car in this class. The six-speed manual transmission (or the optional six-speed automatic) complements the engine well, offering smooth shifts and responsive acceleration. The Elantra handles well around corners, with minimal body roll and good feedback from the steering. The ride quality is comfortable, absorbing most road imperfections with ease, making it an ideal companion for both city commutes and highway drives.
Looks and Performance
The 2018 Elantra sports a sleek and contemporary design, characterized by sharp lines, a prominent hexagonal grille, and stylish alloy wheels. The LED daytime running lights and dynamic rear end give it a distinctive, modern look.
Performance-wise, the diesel engine shines with its combination of power and efficiency. It offers excellent low-end torque, making overtaking and climbing hills effortless. Fuel economy is one of its standout features, providing impressive mileage, which is a significant advantage for long-distance drivers.
Servicing and Maintenance
Hyundai's reputation for reliability and customer service is reflected in the maintenance of the 2018 Elantra Diesel. Routine servicing is straightforward and relatively affordable. The widespread availability of Hyundai service centres ensures easy access to certified maintenance and genuine parts. Additionally, Hyundai offers a comprehensive warranty that covers major components, adding to the overall peace of mind. Scheduled maintenance is crucial to keep the diesel engine running smoothly, but the costs are reasonable, and the intervals are well-spaced.
