Sumo Grande is a fairly spacious car with excellent, small car like turning radius. Fuel efficiency is good and the telco staff, dealer, engineers and mechanics are all eager to help but they need training on this car.
The air circulation switch is driving me crazy, it swicthes off on it's own allowing outside air to come in. I realise this when I smell outside pollution :(
The suspension is hard and the journey is tiring for the family. I am exploring to get the suspension changed to a softer one.
It is love marriage for me (I luv it) but an arranged marriage for my family, you all know how difficult it is for the "Bahu" to adjust in a joint family LOL

Exterior I like the looks when I fell for the Sumo.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Dash board too short, plastics are hard and if you are not careful can cut you.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Average frequent gear changes needed to be in the correct turbo band while driving in the city. Fuel 10-11 in city and 15 on highway (Trivandrum to Bangalore trip), Gear box very vague. Putting it in reverse is a very big challenge.
Ride Quality & Handling Car bounces around too much, worse than being in a boat. sometimes have a up and down movement which is very uncomfortable.
Final Words I took the delivery of the new car in May 2009. I was supposed to get it at 4 PM but eventually got the car only by 7 PM. The brand new car on the next day was back at the workshop and was there for a week to replace the complete fuel lines cause a block had happened. I did not fill the fuel the service center had provided the fuel. Close to 15,000 I had to replace the gear box, but I am still having the same problem. At 33,000 the Turbo charger stopped working and the cost of repair Rs. 50,000 cause during the periodic service they forgot to change the fuel filter and my warranty was void. I complained to Tata Motors of the incompetence of the service center and why the customer should suffer. They have asked the service center to do the repair. My car is still in service from June 8, 2011.
Areas of improvement Tata should do a proper R&D before they launch cars. They should not do an R&D on the public's hard earned money. After buying the car Tata called all Sumo owners and took a feedback and came out with MK II, with some of the glitches removed, but still issues persist. This was the same when the Indica was launched. After the feedback was taken did Tata do anything to help the intial Grande buyers ... NO.
Style and looks, Fantastic turning radius (small) for such a big carSpent more time at the service center, plagued with many problems, service center filled with idiots

I travelled in Sumo Grande from Alwaye to Neyveli (Tamil Nadu). Even after travelling such a long distance(540km) through bad roads I couldn't find any discomforts. The excellent suspension of the car saved me from the bad roads. The performance of the car was excellent. The car's fuel economy was fine and it provided me with all the pleasures in driving.
