Exterior
Box type design, looks nice ( I fell for that )
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)
Very spacious , can accommodate 5 healthy people and 2 kids,
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
it has the worst engine, my timing belt got cut twice, it has put me to shame 4 times as it broke down on roads, very very unreliable suv, engine complaint and I made tata replace parts of the engine once. Service is very poor , the moment you give for service it comes back with dirty interiors.Once I had grease marks all over the interiors.cheap plastics, theplastic part on the roof falls off very soon and service centres do not have this in spare. Just see some of the used safaris and you can see the plastic part missing and a nut is visible.
Ride Quality & Handling
First yeaupon to 30,000 km is good but after that it is useless. During rain beyond 100 kmph speed will move like a snake when you break. Very scary feeling and hence Isold it.
Final Words
DO NOT BUY FOR ITS LOOKS. VERY BAD PRODUCT AND WORST SERVICE. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
Areas of improvement
TATA SHOULD STOP MAKING THIS PRODUCT AND CHEATING BUYERS.
Very spacious, good for rough terrainVery unstable beyond 100 km during rain, worst product, breakdowns common, service is a nightmareExterior/Styles

Exterior : Has been a legacy. Is unique in its own avataar
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Features - ABS should be mandate for all variants for such a big car, rest all can be customed. Space is ample. Even Fortuner does not give this much interior space. Comfort - Back Seat comfort and thigh support is legendary, best in class. Even front seats are enveloping and very comfy.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox - There is initial turbo lag but one can feel it if one tries to pull the car in 2nd gear below 1500 rpm, it does fine with 1st gear. Safe driving speed is 70-80 in highways. Beyond 100 the stability is compromised. Engine is not too rev happy. But it is a mile muncher. Maintain the engine servicing regularly then a 5000km drive also won't be tiresome. Fuel Economy is such a debatable issue. But Safari does well with 9-10 in bumper to bumper traffic with AC on and on highways easily 12-13. I got 14kmpl too. Just drive at 80kmph at 1700rpm. Gearbox - is tad notchy. Actually it is deceptive. Sometimes it is as smooth as butter and sometimes u just have to gym like its a raw weight. Change gear box oil every 20000kms.
Ride Quality & Handling
Handling is ordinary but way better composed than Scorpio or Bolero.
Ride Quality - Not even Fortuner, not even Santa Fe, not even Chevrolet Captiva come even close to Safari's Ride Quality. It is that good and I am not exaggerating it
Final Words
Engine Oil - Change every 14000 kms
Cluth Oil & Brake Oil - Change every 10000 kms
Clutch Plate - 40000kms,
Coolant Pump - 40000 kms,
Timer belt - 90000kms along with the bearing assembly. Please do not change only the timer belt. The whole bearing assembly must be changed. If you change only timer belt it will cost u Rs 6,000 but with whole bearing assembly it will cost u Rs 10,000 but if you do not change the bearing assembly if it breaks down then Rs 40,000 is gone
Suspension - Change every 50000kms
Gear Unit - 60000 kms
Always keep a spare bulb in car. Bulb going off is a very common phenomenon.
Please never turn the safari at high speeds. It can be catastrophic
Always be ready to head to workshop for sounds and niggle issues. Since the after sales service is pathetic, make friends with the mechanics and pay them commission like 100/- or 200/- rs. They will work better on your Safari.
The rear mounted wheel assembly makes lot of noise. Get it throrughly planted with some thermocole fitting.
Areas of improvement
1. After sales service
2. Cost of spare parts can challenge even 30lac + price range cars. Come on TATA. Don't be such mercenraies over your flagship vehicle. This is bad in fact sad. You just loot people on this. Some day all your loyal customers will give you Babaji ka Thullu. So stop being such greedy
3. Pay your workers more and get your managers to have people management skills. Their behavior towards workers is very rude and filled with lot of slangs. It is not good. I have seen it and heard it. I have seen workers wiping tears with their greased hands. This should change.
4. Interiors - Take a leaf out of Toyota. In span of 3 months your company's cars' power windows go off. We get to hear niggles that can irritate the hell out of each other. Electrical problems are a regular affair. Learn and improve
Final Note :-
Tata Safari is a legacy. I am proud to own one. But you know it would have been way better had it been Maruti Safari. This is true. Safari as a vehicle has not been done justice by you people and Safari deserves better if not Tata

Exterior Overall about the vehicle is good.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Moderate,,last two baby seats are just waste.good for luggage.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Good performance,it gives 13.7/ltr milage.
Ride Quality & Handling Good.
Final Words Over all its a impressive vehicle.
Areas of improvement The sellers are very good to convince, but the company is failing to keep their words after sales service. honestly speaking we get too much hearted when they wont support even problem is with the manufacturers. And the service section people feel they are the owners of the TATA company. In most of the dealers they dont have qualified good staff for service, they will treat you loving SAFARI as it equivalent to TATA SUMO, they even wolt let you people to see what they are doing with our loving car. So my personal opinion is to always concentrate the service section before buying any car.
Being a mechanical engineer I suggest its better to go for any small car,{apart from TATA} rather than getting hearted afterwards.

I feel i would have purchased any other car..becoz we are like a owners before BUYING CAR, after owning the car you are BEGGER IN FRONT OF THE WORKSHOP. VERY VERY WORST SERVICE..NO PROPER SUPPORT. But vehicle is good,

Exterior What can I say about the exteriors? The design and shape of this vehicle is over a decade old and still feels contemporary. Amazing road presence. Park it on the road or inside your compound, grabs your attention immediately. Mud on the tyres and body enhances the exteriors.:)
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Lots of space inside. Very comfortable 2 rows. 3rd row is awful. Consider it as a 5-seater only. Fold the jump seats at the back and you could probably move your house in the Safari. The rear a/c blower in the roof in the EX and above variants is rarely used, at least in Mumbai climes. The regular a/c chills the cabin nicely. Storage spaces are sorely missed. The glove compartment can hold only the papers and some pens / pencils. The compartments in the doors can't even hold a one-litre water bottle.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The DICOR engine is a gem. Even when pushed, it stills keeps asking for more. Use the car in the turbo band and its scaringly responsive. It takes some time to get a hang of the right gears and rpms, especially if you come from a petrol background. But once you experience the torque, I doubt whether you would go back to your petrol sedan/hatchback. The vehicle returns a decent FE of slightly under 10kmpl in bumper-to-bumper city rush hour traffic conditions. On the highways, with the pedal firmly fixed to the floor and with all a/c's blowing, it returned me an average of 12 kmpl. Someone with a sedate driving style can probably manage around 14kmpl, but then the Safari, highways and sedate driving style do not make a good combination. :) An average of 12 kmpl under 'pedal-to-floor' driving conditions is very decent, I suppose.
Ride Quality & Handling The Ride quality is the best for any vehicle this side of Rs. 10 lakhs. On bumpy roads and potholes, there is a lot of boat-like yawing if you drive it like you would drive a hatch or a sedan. Ignore the potholes and bumps and you will not even feel that you went over a pothole. This may cause problems with the suspension and an odd rattle somewhere or squeak somewhere. If you ride rough, be prepared to be handy with a screwdriver. If you don't fancy any DIY manouvres, do not fret. There's nothing a visit to the friendly garage cannot fic.
Final Words As the ad says, 'Reclaim your Life'. Sums the vehicle nicely.
Areas of improvement A lot of people crib about plastic quality and panel gaps, etc. I find them ok and strictly at par or better than what you get from anyone else at that price. Storage spaces could do with some improvement, though. At least, decent space to store 1 litre bottles for every passenger, and a CD rack.
Form factor, space, road presence, performance, comfortnot much storage space, turning radius is a major gripe

Exterior A real bull, great presence on road, immediately grabs respect. The only deficiency i could find were the headlight bulbs which i promptly replaced with Osram Nightbreakers.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Great interiors by way of space, air conditioning and the Alpine music system. Never feels cramped for space on long drives or tired while driving. Ample space for all the luggage you could collect. Consider this to be 5-6 person vehicle, the rear jumpseats are not too comfortable for long journeys.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Fabulous engine - the torque and power enable very high in speed acceleration, making overtaking very easy. No complaints on gearbox or fuel economy. Crawling in the city traffic is no big deal for this bull, which is equally at home on the highway at 140kmph.
Ride Quality & Handling Very stable handling even at high speeds, braking without ABS feels OK.
Final Words Real value for money. Good SUV, does not need 4W unless you want to do heavy off roading.
Areas of improvement Reducing the turning radius would help in city traffic. Better headlight bulbs would improve night driving experience.

Exterior I drive a black Safari Dicor VTT2, 2011 model. Veruy Good macho look.well built. Rusting is a big problem as I live in a costal area.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Very Roomy. All my friends first remark when they get into the car is oh very spacious! Cheep plastics and swiches. Got spoiled in 6 months.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Up to 80 Km good after 80 not economical. Had no issues with Gear ,now 70000 clocked.
Ride Quality & Handling Good off roader. Unstable a bit above 100 km. Very poor breaking. All Iron parts including body ,gets rusted soon. Both the side foot rests fell of due to rustion in 6 months.
Costal Auto Rahmundry,AP promised me a rear view mirror as a gift at the time of purchase.I did not get it until now after nany reminders I quit.
Very poor after sale service. If they unscrue any nut or bolts, better to check and and ask them to fit all.In most cases they leave a few of them.
Funnest thing is that they requst you through phone to give good feed back on service.Tata need to redisign the feedback form and method.I think original feed back is not reaching the research team.
Final Words A good offroader with the value for money and a very bad after sales service.
Areas of improvement Breaks, Safty bags, Gaps in Body door etc. Plastics, Switches. Turning radius, Rustiong of iron.
