Exterior What can I say about the exteriors? The design and shape of this vehicle is over a decade old and still feels contemporary. Amazing road presence. Park it on the road or inside your compound, grabs your attention immediately. Mud on the tyres and body enhances the exteriors.:)
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Lots of space inside. Very comfortable 2 rows. 3rd row is awful. Consider it as a 5-seater only. Fold the jump seats at the back and you could probably move your house in the Safari. The rear a/c blower in the roof in the EX and above variants is rarely used, at least in Mumbai climes. The regular a/c chills the cabin nicely. Storage spaces are sorely missed. The glove compartment can hold only the papers and some pens / pencils. The compartments in the doors can't even hold a one-litre water bottle.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The DICOR engine is a gem. Even when pushed, it stills keeps asking for more. Use the car in the turbo band and its scaringly responsive. It takes some time to get a hang of the right gears and rpms, especially if you come from a petrol background. But once you experience the torque, I doubt whether you would go back to your petrol sedan/hatchback. The vehicle returns a decent FE of slightly under 10kmpl in bumper-to-bumper city rush hour traffic conditions. On the highways, with the pedal firmly fixed to the floor and with all a/c's blowing, it returned me an average of 12 kmpl. Someone with a sedate driving style can probably manage around 14kmpl, but then the Safari, highways and sedate driving style do not make a good combination. :) An average of 12 kmpl under 'pedal-to-floor' driving conditions is very decent, I suppose.
Ride Quality & Handling The Ride quality is the best for any vehicle this side of Rs. 10 lakhs. On bumpy roads and potholes, there is a lot of boat-like yawing if you drive it like you would drive a hatch or a sedan. Ignore the potholes and bumps and you will not even feel that you went over a pothole. This may cause problems with the suspension and an odd rattle somewhere or squeak somewhere. If you ride rough, be prepared to be handy with a screwdriver. If you don't fancy any DIY manouvres, do not fret. There's nothing a visit to the friendly garage cannot fic.
Final Words As the ad says, 'Reclaim your Life'. Sums the vehicle nicely.
Areas of improvement A lot of people crib about plastic quality and panel gaps, etc. I find them ok and strictly at par or better than what you get from anyone else at that price. Storage spaces could do with some improvement, though. At least, decent space to store 1 litre bottles for every passenger, and a CD rack.
Form factor, space, road presence, performance, comfortnot much storage space, turning radius is a major gripe

Exterior Overall about the vehicle is good.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Moderate,,last two baby seats are just waste.good for luggage.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Good performance,it gives 13.7/ltr milage.
Ride Quality & Handling Good.
Final Words Over all its a impressive vehicle.
Areas of improvement The sellers are very good to convince, but the company is failing to keep their words after sales service. honestly speaking we get too much hearted when they wont support even problem is with the manufacturers. And the service section people feel they are the owners of the TATA company. In most of the dealers they dont have qualified good staff for service, they will treat you loving SAFARI as it equivalent to TATA SUMO, they even wolt let you people to see what they are doing with our loving car. So my personal opinion is to always concentrate the service section before buying any car.
Being a mechanical engineer I suggest its better to go for any small car,{apart from TATA} rather than getting hearted afterwards.

I feel i would have purchased any other car..becoz we are like a owners before BUYING CAR, after owning the car you are BEGGER IN FRONT OF THE WORKSHOP. VERY VERY WORST SERVICE..NO PROPER SUPPORT. But vehicle is good,
What is the use of such vehicle, where we won"t get the Best service support,

I have a dicor 3.0 L engine which gives me 13 km to a ltr of diesel at speeds of 100-120 on highways. I am told that the new 2.2 VTT gives even better fuel averge. All my experiences with the car are only pleasant ones except for one which I will narrate later. The car rules the highways, and makes an impressionable presence on the roads. It is very comfortable and you hardly feel what is happening outside. When the car was new either one of the front wheels would get locked while sudden braking, imbalancing the vehicle. once at a speed of 120 KPH it hapened and the reqar of the car skidded to turn the car by 180 degrees. now it does not happen may be because now I may have learnt how to handle the car
the car is styled good and also offers good fuel economy although i would like morenilExterior/Styles

I have been driving this beauty since last June, It was a dream come true for me, when i drove home a Black TATA SAFARI 2.2 VTT EX. I live in Pune, the city of two wheelers, small congested roads and crossed lanes, and I had mixed feelings about this decision just as i drove the first couple of kilometers on to the main road.
But it was really surprising how fast you get used to this beast, and by the time i reached home, most of the butterflies were settled. Tiny irritants like the shabby interiors (trademark TATA), bad quality fittings, the death rattle at slow speeds (although it is not consistant) were still killing me. Add to that, thick black smoke bursting out of the exhaust during instant throttle.
Interiors and fitting quality 3/5
Driving on City Roads 4/5 (Finding parkings on roadsides can be tricky too)
But all this was immaterial the following weekend, the day i hit the highway :) I travel to Mumbai, almost every weekend and the moment i hit the express highway, this beast makes you forget all my worries. The responsiveness, handling, comfort was just out of the world. Negotiating tricky overtaking maneuvers on single way highways was easy too when you have beef loads of power on your disposal.
Power 5/5
Handeling 5/5
The ability of the safari to accommodate people also is outstanding, specially if your outing with friends or family. The small seats at the rare, might look small, but believe me, if i can sit on them, ANYONE can be comfortable there. The air conditioning too is strong, never had to set it to more than 2, ever.
Seating 5/5
A/C 4.5/5 (i'll explain the missing .5 later)
Negotiating long drives on the Safari too is a breeze; i once took a road trip to Goa, with one stop on both ways, and never felt I was pushing myself. Driving comfort is a straightforward A+
Driving Comfort 5/5
Couple of things you need to be absolutly sure before and when you buy the Safari:
§ You are buying a TATA Car, so don’t bet in the interior quality and an absolutely silent drive :)
§ You'll need to quickly adapt to couple of issues, like the thick black smoke i mentioned, or the A/C fuse that might short if your not careful. Workarounds are, don’t throttle like a maniac, its VTT anyways, you'll get used to it. And DO NOT switch the A/C on before you crank up the engine, the fuse WILL short if your don’t take care.
§ DO NOT compare the Safari to some foreign guzzler SUV's coz they are NOT in the same segment. People have to shell out atleast twice the amount to buy and maintain them, and YET the safari can give them a run for their money in terms of the power and comfort. If you don’t believe me, do your own homework by comparing the safari to those guzzlers, even carwale.com would help you do it.
§ SAFARI IS DEISEL, most of the other SUV's aren’t.
§ Try to get the speed to gear ratio right, this will help you keep the car silent.
§ And FINALLY……VTT, something I can talk about for hour’s together, or even you can lookup on the internet, but nobody can explain you this technology better than the Safari itself. Don’t believe me? Take a test drive, preferably the highway, notice the behavior of this beast once it crosses 2200 RMP

Exterior It looks heavy from the outside and see the solidility of the big beast.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The inerial features are good the seat adjust ment etc. space it rearly amazing u can put a lot of things its huge. comfort level as i told above i gave 4 stars its wroth giveing it . can'nt feel tired after travelling a long distance its much comfortable than many other cars.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine performance is not up to the mark . gear box is smooth.
Ride Quality & Handling Riding the safari is great fun the hadiling is a little hard because the turning is radius is less.
Final Words Its a amazing car or a suv u can say. its a joy to have safari good going tata.
Areas of improvement Can increase the power of the engine so that all the gears will have power its an suv. the 4x4 should also have much better performance. the servicing is not so good. I expect more from this car when i buy it next year . i hope all these things change in the suv.
it looks like a huge monsterthe 1st gear power is less and the shockobsorver at the rear is bad

The rear breaks have pressure valves. The rear breaks locks down first and then the front breaks. This can cause the car to fishtail and spin. This happened to my car yesterday. Thankfully, I'm still alive. The car is good, however, like all Indian products TATAs have also cut corners in terms of safety. If you don't love your life or drive at low speeds then go for it. But, sudden breaking on the highway can be disasterous.
As for me, I'm throwing this car away. I will use my other cars until I decide on my next SUV.

Exterior Pretty good except for rear door saging heater runs very cold brrr.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) As good as any other 4x4 nice and high great visability.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Gear box takes a bit of getting used to four wheel drive could be a lot better got to be carefull when selecting as you hear the crunch when you get it wrong.
Ride Quality & Handling Pretty poor very soft suspension for such a heavy jeep.
Final Words Do not buy second hand unless you get full service history and make sure you can get a service manual.
Areas of improvement Go back to gear shift for four wheel drive ssangyong had the same faults with four wheel drive problems electrics would need to inprove control switches for the electric as there a dip like well and when the door is open the rain gets into them.
good off road great pulling power4x4 selection hit and miss get it wrong it will cost dearly
