Recently bought Nano automatic. Although I have Figo and Ecosport automatic, Nano is my favorite for city drive. Nano story would be remembered in management books as greatest case study where an engineering marvel was made to fail by wrong marketing campaigns.
Entire focus of Nano marketing was on getting two wheeler users to upgrade to Nano. Why would they, when they can simply afford a bigger second hand car.
Nano is not best suited for first time car buyers as its suited for second car buyers.
There is no better car than Nano automatic in Indian market for city traffic conditions. I relish it every Day as it helps me save about 15 min on my 20km city traffic drive. But I feel sorry for Ratan Tata and other Nano engineers whose great efforts failed due to wrong product positioning by Nano marketing team. Here is what I love about Nano
1. Small Width - Helps me squeeze through leftmost part of road and narrow road conditions due to illegal parking, people occupying multiple lanes to turn right on signal, metro work.
2. Small length - Very easy to park in remaining space between a parked car and open gate where most bigger/longer cars can't fit. I call them exclusive Nano parking spots.
3. Big Window - Tall seating and large windows make minimize visual obstructions while driving/riding. Feels like you are on bike but without the noise and pollution of road.
4. Right pickup for city conditions - Nano automatic in sport mode has just the right pickup for city driving conditions which allows you to go into those open gaps between cars without making it too much where you need to immediately apply breaks.
5. Good AC - AC is very powerful and even in peak Hyd summer, I can't keep it on max cool for too long as it gets very cold.
6. Tall Seating- Tall seating is more comfortable, gives better view of the road and getting in and out is easy. I hate getting in and out of sedan and hatchbacks.
7. Power Steering- Very light and easy to operate with one hand in traffic.
8. Speakers- Good car speakers.
9. No big bonnet- You have perfect judgement of road ahead, making it easy to move across lanes when you are stuck in traffic.
10. High ground clearance- Those bad roads and rough side patches are no concern when driving nano due to its 180mm and short wheelbase.
11. Sport mode- This is the mode for regular car driving. Economy is only for mileage fans. Some negatives.
1. Car Bluetooth Microphone - Peaks up lot of noise and people on other side can't hear clearly. I use a portable bose speaker with microphone.
2. Image - Thanks to Tata's Marketing geniuses, this car has so poor image that people feel it's weird to drive this car. I know people in Bangalore who want this comfort but buy Mahindra E2O over this car due to image issue.
3. Don't make a turn in it at high speed, it may topple. I met a guy whose nano toppled during a steep turn on highway exit
Overall - If you already have a car / SUV etc but tired of driving it and looking for something in city driving conditions, look no further. There is no better alternative in market irrespective of how much you are ready pay. Best part is, most fantastic car for city driving is cheapest car to own as well.
Some requests to Tata Motors:
1. Please release new version with following features a. Better sound insulation b. Android auto & apple carplay (lift and shift from Nexon) like Renault did it. We should be able to take conf calls from car. c. Front hand rest.
2. Fire your current marketing team and start a fresh marketing campaign focused on second car buyers who need car for city use. Focus on easy of parking and livability and how it's better than bigger cars instead of focusing on how it's better than bike. Work hard to improve image of car.
3. Reduce the price by at-least 50k.
4. Add reverse parking camera with dashcam as dealer side accessory. 3k worth of accessory makes it very useful.

Exterior It has good exterior. the bumpers are made of good material which even after touching by other cars on couple of occassions, regained its original status and never had to do any dentin- painting.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Comfortable interior. efficiency of AC of the car declined over the period of 1 & 1/2 years of use. After mentioning it to the workshop they cleaned the filter and AC started working effectively as erlier.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine performance is excellent never had any problems while riding in ghats.
Fuel economy in city traffic of mumbai 13kmpl, on highways its about 20-23kmpl. Auto gears work smoothly in every occassion except traffic in acending ghat where it gave trouble on one occassion. where its gear malfunction lights on car console started to blink, but it disappered when traffic cleared and drove uninturrupted for half a km. but on same occassion i saw 10's of other new cars broken down on the left side of the ghat (khambatki - satara - maharashtra).
Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality is second to ford ikon that i used to drive, but it is better than other entry level cars that I drove.
Final Words Excellent machine that I bought from indian manufacturer and proud of such a accomplished product from tatas.
Areas of improvement Nothing to mention.

Exterior Stylish looks complemented by clean, fuss free styling. Always brings a smile to one's face when one sees the vehicle.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Excellent space management in proportion to overall vehicle size. Four people can seat comfortably. Very good air-conditioning performance. Cabin becomes an igloo in no time. For the money you get Central locking, Front fog lights, Front power windows, Electrically assisted power steering, Comprehensive Multi - Function display and trip computer featuring Instant Fuel Efficiency, Average Fuel Efficiency, Distance To Empty, Twin trip meters, Gearshift indicator and a Digital clock - All in a super compact yet wonderfully legible digital display. Music system is by Harmann and supports: Radio / CD / Mp3 / Aux - In / USB and Bluetooth streaming. Connecting your phone via Bluetooth is effortless.
The openable rear hatch offers much needed practicality and two to three medium sized soft bags can easily be acomodated. Boot space is no worse than the old Maruti 800.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine performance is adequate. Needs 10 more horsepower to become an even better city car. The Automatic gearbox works fine under gentle throttle applications. Aggressive throttle inputs makes the gearbox fumble and the pause between upshifts and downshifts. Things improve markedly in "S" mode which can be activated by a small "S" button at the base of the gear selector lever.
Fuel economy is excellent. With continuous air conditioning in maddening city traffic, 17kmpl is a realistic achievement, consistently. On highways, 20 - 21kmpl is regularly achieved. The trick to highway cruising in a Nano is to build up velocity in a constant, linear manner and not to rush things. The NANO feels best crusing between 80 - 85 kmph on highways.
Ride Quality & Handling The suspension in the Gen X NANO is actually quite good keeping in mind the tiny wheels. The problem is the limited suspension travel. This is felt especially when the Nano hits a deep enough pothole and the short springs use up all the travel, especially at the front, and the result is a rather audible and annoying "thud" as the lower suspension arm hits the limit of its travel.
On city roads, minor road imperfections are soaked up well. However you cannot defy the laws of physics, hence the combination of a short wheelbase, small wheels and limited suspension travel will always find a way to jiggle your bones! :-)
Handling-wise, the NANO is incredibly nippy in the lanes and bylanes of the city. It's not a corner carver and neither does it pretend to be. High speed cornering sees copious amounts of body roll and the 135 - section front tyres soon lose the battle with adhesion, with the vehicle progressing into gentle understeer.
Final Words An excellent city car. Spacious, frugal, feature laden and a doddle to drive. Classic styling and a true blue "Made In India" product. The fact that an indian manufacturer had the guts to produce a product like the NANO speaks a lot - and one should feel proud - about Indian engineers and their ingenuity.
The NANO actually proved to be the wake up call for many Western Car manufacturers to relook into their vehicle development processes and create vehicles using many of the ideas incorporated in the NANO. Toyota Liva, Toyota Etios, Datsun Redi - GO, Renault's hugely successfuly KWID, all borrowed ideas from the NANO to achieve what they have achieved.
Areas of improvement Around 10 horsepower more, Better brakes, 13-inch wheels and slightly longer travel suspension.

Exterior The inimitable, cute look of the Nano needs no introduction. The Nano is no longer the 2500$ car, but a sleek and stylish head-turner. Some of my acquaintances were surprised on the makeover that Tata motors has given to the Nano. Looks stunning.
The openable hatch is a welcome addition and the boot is good for most occassions. The door handles, the ORVMs blending in with the body is another plus.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) I am 6'2" tall. I have had no issues with entering/getting our of the car and don't have to push the seat back by much to sit comfortably. The upholstery is pleasant to the eye and the seats are ergonomic and comfortable. The driving controls feel good and work well - the gear stick looks premium - and the dashboard console is quite informative. Steering is a breeze and its ease of use us a major contributor to the maneuverability of the vehicle. The glove boxes are a great addition. Overall, the space management is outstanding - both in terms of rider space and also in terms of how much TATA has managed to provision in a compact car like the Nano.
I am usually claustrophobic - an issue that made me delay my decision to buy a car (and learn to drive) by several years. Inside the NANO, I feel at home and don't feel suffocated anymore.
The audio system is very good and serves my purpose well.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox No complains. The engine performs reliably and so long as one is cognizant of the car's specification and drives with due consideration, there are no surprises. The car handles very well at speeds of even 80 KMPH (haven't driven any faster).
My only comlpain is that the car lurches a little when switching from first to second gears, more so after a downshift from 2 to 1 and then back up.
Ride Quality & Handling The car is a pleasure to drive and I have not experinced any ride quality issues. Being someone that prefers to drive in the 40-50 KMPH range most of the time (even on empty roads), I have experienced nothing but smooth gear switches.
The NANO climbs slopes pretty well and I've experienced that on both flyovers and on ramps in a multi-level car parking (where I park my car on the 6th floor). It handles the spiral ramps very well. It did scare me momentarily one day when it decided to take some time to upshift on the ramp, but surprisingly didn't roll back and managed to gracefully resume climbing after halting for a second or so. The fear was more owing to my being a newbie than the car itself. I haven't had any issues - touchwood. (I use the sport mode to climb)
Final Words I was always a person that was afraid of cars and could only think of everything that could go wrong with my driving it. That, coupled with a natural aversion for the clutch baased system, I was certain that I would never drive a car in my life (I even bought a house without a car parking as I was sure it was wasted investment. I rue that decision today). The NANO made it possible for me to shun my fears, inhibitions and reservartions and helped me take the leap of faith.
Although the car captivated me with its wide viewport and ample interior space - and so well lit and ventilated- I have found it goes beyond just space and ticks all the right boxes. TATA motors have done a great job with their upgrades and in making this car a pleasure to own and drive. This is truly a smart city car and I hope more take to the NANO.
Areas of improvement More an AMT improvement which even a friend ownign a Celerio reported. If the lag can be brought down, it would make for a flawless drive.
Easy to drive, Spacious, Cute, FunctionalAMT is sluggish (Went for it knowing this well).Exterior/Styles
