Exterior Looks good, but the exterior parts are so light that when you lean on the car you will realize it. My 8 year old Zen had similar issue.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Space is the Best thing in this car. Looks very spacious and sometimes it even decieves. Very few features, but frankly I do not miss many as i've upgarded from ZEN LXI where it is featureless car. The noise level gets into the car and could well have been arrested by way of better sealing. When I drove Swift diesel car with the noise level inside the car I never realized until i was told that the car I was driving was a diesel. Tacho meter is sorely missed as the power of the car is not known without the looking at the Tacho.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Fantastic engine performance. I have to climb up from my basement parking to come ontomain road. In my Zen car i need to throttle right from word go to move up, but with Liva i just have to climb up very casually and no need to throttle for moving up to main road. Also for 2 Kms from my home the roads are very steep and the car moves without much fuss and without additional acceleration on this road. I could feel loads of difference when compared to my old car (although it looks slightly insensitive to compare a 1000CC petrol car vs 1360CC diesel car). As far the gear box, if you know the right positions you can shift the gears with just 2 fingers. Fuel Economy looks like inside city i am getting 19-20 KMPL with 90% of my drive without AC. Note that the traffic in the routes that i travel daily is relatively lesser as compared to some of the jammed roads in Bangalore. Have not yet tried on highways so far.
Ride Quality & Handling Not many will like the ride quality as the light weight of the car can be easily traced on bad roads. Not much can be said about handling as the car can comfortably clear the high bumpers of Bangalore. There is always thud noise once the left front tyre hits a pothole. When enquired with Service engineer of Nandi Toyota they say that the same will not affect the body of the car. When enquired with them regarding adjustment of the front suspensions, the service engineers said they will not touch it until they get a go ahead from the manufacturer. Note, because of the engine weight on the right front, there is not much of problem to the front right suspension, but the right and left front suspensions are tuned in same manner to handle similar weights, so there is always some thud noise in front left suspension when it hits a pot hole unlike the front right suspension due to lack of weight.
Final Words Liva is not for trendy Gen Y type of people. It is more of a VFM car and people who are in late 30s may like it because it gives safety (Airbag and ABS) with good mileage at this price.
Areas of improvement Front suspension need to be tuned according to the load the suspension takes. Interior could have been better. A Tacho would not have harmed Toyota in Diesel cars.
Good Fuel Economy, Smooth driving in city trafficPoor Interior, Interior does not give statisfaction of having paid Rs 7.5 Lacs on-road
