I’m Vipul Arora, a 22 year old who has completed his mechanical engineering diploma sometime ago. My family wanted a vehicle and I was searching for one that is good and easy to drive. Being a mechanical engineer, I preferred seeing the vehicle’s specs on paper and even in real world. Since we wanted a large vehicle, that is affordable also, we had limited options. I had seen a couple of vehicles. I wasn’t sure if I will get that much space in any car at that price range until I heard of the Tata Sumo Gold. A lot of people recommended me to buy the Tata Sumo Gold. A close friend of mine is also using it and he also suggested me to buy the Sumo Gold.
After seeing a few advertisement in the newspapers and on television, I decided to go and see the vehicle myself. I liked the vehicle and also the space did look good. So, on my friend’s recommendation, I booked this vehicle. Everyone told me that the Sumo Gold is good and not very expensive also. This is the first time we bought the Sumo Gold. It is nice and spacious and I like it. It hasn’t given us any sort of trouble and never had any maintenance issues with the SUV also. The Sumo Gold is doing well, and is definitely carrying the Sumo legacy to the next level.
The mechanicals of the Sumo Gold are good. Being a mechanical engineer, I see how good the quality of the moving parts is and I’m confident about the durability of this. The engine is good in terms on power and the pick up is good. I like to drive this car very much. The brochure also reads that the Sumo Gold has the smallest turning radius. It does make driving and turning easier.
The biggest USP for the Sumo Gold is its space. There is so space inside, in all the three rows and even the seats are comfortable. My family is happy with the head space and leg space that the Sumo Gold has. There has been no complaining for seating and even for the luggage space.
Other vehicles feel so cramped. This is a proper SUV, which is big on the outside and also on the inside. The Sumo Gold is really spacious. I like sitting in the SUV, and I’m happy to buy this car. The looks are also good and it looks macho and rough and tough. The chrome also looks rich.
The Sumo Gold has power steering, which makes it easy to drive in city especially at low speeds. This reduces the stress and effort to drive such a big vehicle. Power steering is definitely a good thing to have in an SUV. It is very easy to drive also, despite its large dimensions. Be it city or highway, there is no problem to drive the Sumo Gold. Even on small and crowded lanes in Southern part of India.
The pick up of the engine is also good. The power delivery is good and you do not have to change gears that often. The torque produced by the Sumo Gold is good. I like diesel engines for their torque and the Sumo Gold lives up to it. We Southern Indians love diesel engine for its efficiency. The entire world knows how hot it gets in the Southern part of India and the air conditioning of the Sumo Gold impresses. Even the passengers in the second and third row are happy with the cooling of the air conditioning. Generally, this isn’t the case and occupants seating behind complain about no cooling.
We use the Sumo Gold for our family’s personal use and we have taken it to several places. We also give the vehicle to relativesand some close friends who ask for it. I like the Sumo Gold and I’m one of the happy customers, as I like to drive it. And my family likes it for the inside cabin space that the car offers. We park the car immediately inside our gate so those coming to our home can see the vehicle, as the first thing when they enter. It is our pride and as a mechanical engineer this is the vehicle of my choice.

Exterior good
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) features are less but comfort is superb. Regarding space it scores the best in suv segments.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox ok , let me give some intro first. i am a hardcore driving maniac and till on today i have 4 vehicles at a time in my garrage. an amby of 2004, an scorpio crde of 2007,and an tata manza lx quadrajet of 2013, the last one is the mighty sumo gold of2013. Simply to say it is the revolutionary product from tata. Engine performance, power , pick up , space, comfort everything is very good. Till date it has run 10000 km in last eight monthes without any issues. Engine is very very powerful and is very smooth and well tuned with a decent mileage of 13 in highway and 11 -12 in city conditions. Ac is super chilled. Pickup is good but obviously not like scorpio but still it is good. It easily touches 100 -110 km/hr without any extra push in throttle. But after that it accelerates slowly. I have once touched 140 , but didnot try over that. Heard it can touch 155. Sumo gold is at its best in 80-100 in respect of everything. Anything beyond that is extra strain to the vehicle . visibilty from drivers seat and space is best in its segment. Easily can accomodate 10 persons with sufficient leg space. Ac is also very good. absolutely no issues till date. I have taken it to many long drives and it performed excellently. it is a good buy if you go for it. Price is very reasonable . Actually you get a monstrous suv at the cost of a sedan. Only the nagging part is its engine sound and vibration which is like the old sumos and shifting gear is slightly hard. But overall it is a very good suv at the most affordable price. Just go for it.

Acceleration and engine performance is good.
Power steering is too good and even better than XUV, I have tried almost all the vehicle in the market. But top speed and quality of the interiors should improve. It is easy to handle for me, as I have tried sumo's all variants since a decade. Good product, you need have a second thought about purchasing this vehicle if it fits your budget. You cant compare with Duster or Eco sport.
It stands apart for the money you pay to Tata, Powerful engine to ride, Ride quality is good. I got stuck once in muddy and clay soil, all three wheels where struck in mud, but the vehicle's power is tremendrous that I could manage to take off the vehicle in heavy rains. Maximum speed I have tried is 135.
Power is the high light of this vehicle :)

Exterior Nothing great. good old sumo.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Dont buy the 9 seater. The 7 seater is a better model for space inside.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Gives about 9 in the city with AC and around 13 on the highway with AC.
Ride Quality & Handling Handling is good. I have driven it upto 125kmph on highways and is still solid. though the braking at high speeds is not great. i would advise that you stick about 100kmph. mileage is great between 80-90 kmph. you will get about 14 km/lt. The suspension is very bumpy especially if there are fewer than 5 people in the car
Final Words Not good for personal use for local driving. Great for family on long distance.
Areas of improvement Clutch is a known problem in the Sumo gold. It can be very hard. Suspension is poor. Lot of rattling.
Very poor service from Aadya motors bangalore. They are unable to fix the suspension, clutch and alignment issues from the beginning. My sumo is 9 months old and they are still trying to fix these problems. I have taken it to them 10 time so far with no respite.

Exterior I Brought this Mechanical Monster by November 2012. In past two Months i Made 20,000Kilos. Not a Spare i was made to Change. Oil service Done. It got Smoother after 15000. Trust Worthy Product of Tata Motors.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Not a Huge Change in interiors. Feeling The Same As Victa. Same Dashboard, AC console. Center console is awesome, White Backlighted console with Tachometer and Odometer. Sharp.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Good Pick up. Superb turbo Humming, will Hear To the Turbo Humming and Drive Happily. 0 - 80 is Quick in acceleration, But later takes a lot time. Have to rev the engine more. A Decent mileage of 15 with AC in decent Driving, Vaery decent for a 3000cc Engine with 2.5 tonnes Vehicle. Gear Box is not Changed Yet, the same Long Moves For Gear shifts.
Ride Quality & Handling Driving with a jam packed of 10 persons inside makes more smoother Ride. Improved suspension, Nice to drive. Handling is nice. Never makes a strain to Drive such a big monster.
Final Words Worth the money. Dont Just see the outlook alone while choosing the vehicle, The Mechanicals matters more.
Areas of improvement Outlook shoukl have been Given a Change. Should have improver aesthetics too. No roof blowers in top end (GX). I own a GX, no big Features there compared to Lower ends. Clutch noise is more, Same as a 1994 Sumo. No change in clutch system. Same good old noisy oil Clutch mechanism Used.

I purchased this car on 05/09/2014. Air conditioner stopped working after six months and there was leakage in power steering oil. I complained about this many times but AC is still not repaired after one and half year. From one month my car is in tata service centre Allahabad but still not repaired and now they are saying that your warranty has expired after one and half year while at the time of purchase they were saying that it has warranty of 3 years. I purchased it on 05/09/2014 but in tata service centre database it is showing january 2014. Now they are asking for 8000/- Rs. for repairing AC while car is in warranty. All this is happening after complaining to top officials of tata via email.Built quality of car is bad and tata after sales services is worst. company is doing emotional blackmail only and making fool to customers at the time of sell.Dont go on Leon Messy (New brand ambassador of Tata)or tata nano (to show that company is doing social service by making low cost cars). All this is on TV or newspapers.The reality is at service centre and after sales services and it is very hard to find parts of the tata cars outside service centre .
