I have been researching hatchbacks for over a month now and have test driven all of them. Its the Fabia which I would be going for, next week, for sure - the 1.2 MPI.
In the 5L+ range, it is not the most powerful (like Getz CRDi) or not the most fuel efficient (Swift D) neither the most spaceious (Indica Vista), but it offers a complete and well built package. With interiors and exteriors which can put many higher segment cars to shame. You just need to try one of these *Fab* beauties to experience the difference that quality brings in.
Great control at high speeds, excellent handling, butter smooth gear shift, decent low end torque for city drives. To top it off, the feeling of safety you get once inside is class apart.
Only if the spares could be cheaper and A.S.S. network more reliable/better, it would outshine most hatchbacks/sedans in the market.

I have owned this car for over a year now. It drives like the first day.
The fuel economy has gone up from 14km/l diesel inside the city to 17 km/l.
The engine has become smooth and the sound is hum than rattle of the 3-cylinder engine.
Maintenance cost for year one is nil.
First service total bill has been Rs.4100/-
So far no complaints with Tafe Access in Bangalore.
The mirror unit on the right side needed replacing. But parts were not availiable.
First Paid Service at 25000 Km 3 years after purchase
Total cost of service was Rs. 12,000
- Oil change (cost of oil gone up costs about Rs. 6000)
- Labour about Rs. 2000
- Change of Brake Pads (after every 20000 to 25000km)
- Had to change brake discs as well (due to rusting- unknown cause) additional cost was incurred.
Made sense to change the brake discs as the brake pads and discs both new would match and increase the life of the brake pads.
Miscellaneous parts like wiper blade, oil filter and aircon filter (all definitely looked like they needed a change)

i bought this car injuly 2008 & thought that this will give me the pleasure cum confidence in driving.but to report the car has started troubling me after 650kms,noise from a/c rattling noise from blowers rear mirror left/right not adjesting{changed by co,but tooks1month to replase,parts not available} after this work rattling noise started from doors.car is having the problem of going toward left but service team not able to solve the same,the noise is comming from left front still not able to solve.they kept the car for 2day &after that for3days but still not able to solve theproblems.i personally invested my time at their service centre but no result, they have opened full dashboard,doors airfilter twice to find/replace the faulty parts but still not sucessfull..on long route driving or driving on hills a/c start blowing hot air,on hills i have shut a/c for pick up,i am so fedup, that now i repent why i sold my10year Esteem,not giving any trouble? &bought the Europe beauty.....Very careless service centre bad/laze attidude of co. not intrested in solving the problem..think 1000 times before buying the skoda..

Cant complain looks amazing, my only worry is the skoda embellem getting stolen and at times when i park my car i feel paranioud about the same. Also you have to manually lock the petrol cap

very spacious compared to other cars in the segment, only car i have come accross which provides height agustment for the passanger seat as well

the engine is very good but is very noisey , fuel economy is also good and gear box is very smooth

Amazing , Real pleasure of driving, breaking is amazing, the best part is even at a 100 kmph the car grips the road

Exterior
The car has a very strong body in comparison of i-10 & Swift. It shows while driving as the car maintains a very smooth grip on the road while driving. I had an accident where another car hit me from left rear side but the other car was damaged instead of mine.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)
Very good rear boot space. I also own a Verna but Fabia has better rear boot space. Fabia does not have good boot space for the driver. I am 6ft & feels discomfort as my legs continiously touches the music system. The interiors are strong in comparison to Swift & i-10. The seats are comfortable. The steering wheel is very hard may be due to ABS or air bag. You also need to press hard to blow horn. It has rear AC ducts but i didn't find any use as it does not show any impact due to the ducts below the front seats. The car has an AC duct in the dash board and you can have cold water in summers. The car has an in-built music system which is very dangerous to operate while driving. there is no control on the steering wheel as given in swift. You have to look for the buttons in the music system. Also the display on the music system remains dark in the day time & you need to give hard attention on the display which can cause accident. Also did not like the levers given to control the side mirrors. The seat belts are good in length which can easily accomodate a big fat person.

My car is giving a mileage of 12-13 KM. The engine is ok and gives sound like a diesel car when you start the car. The car gives a whisteling sound may be due to ABS system. The gears are very smooth & soft. I own verna also which is in higher segment but the Fabia gears gives much more comfort while driving.
Ride Quality & Handling
The car has a very smooth ride & it gives really a very good comfort on the road. The shock absorbers are very good. It does not make you feel the pain of indian roads. The car has a heavy body & it allows to have a tight grip while driving. When you back the car, only one side of the rear lights work which i could not be able to understand. Initially i thought that only one side of the light is working.
Final Words
Even though the pros are more tha the cons i will still say that the car is not meant for indian roads. I started using Speed petrol (as told by the showroom) for the car & found the car creating acceleration problem or missing problems. The workshop changes the fuel injector as they said the petrol is dirty & we need to have only normal petrol in the car. The car AC has started tripping within 1.5 years of purchase. Even though i have sent the car six times to the workshop the problem is still there. Two times the car has broken down in between & i have to call the workshop to attend. The dealer services are not upto the mark. Even though the car is good but the after sales service makes the car an average performer. The servicing cost also is very high. For a free service you need to shell out 7-8K as the engine oils are different (synthetic engine oil) and costly.
Areas of improvement
Skoda needs to have better dealers who cannot be cheater like (SAI AUTOMOBILES, PATPARGANJ, NEW DELHI). The dealer should provide accurate details regarding the upkeep of the car. The after sales service should be better.

Car is very beautiful and elegant in style and if analogy is drawn with human species it has a nordic features than negrito feaures the most of the todays hatchback have in common.(it has to be read as purely in scientific temparament and by nomeans to undermine any race or human sub species.

Interiors are beautiful, ample space in cabin and in boot and ride is very comfortable

The noise of engine during the cranking can be easily be mislead for diesel than petrol, economy from inception was 16-17km/ltr which included 90 percent long drive+ 10 percent city drive, and 12-13km/ltr in hill drive and at present after more than 7500kms the frugality of fuel and performance has increased considerably although i have not kept the log in the recent past. This i can guess from the fact that how much petrol it use to consume in the past and present consumption covering the same route for eg, darjiling to slliguri and back. Another good thing is that torque availabity is wide thus need less frequent gear shifts.
Ride Quality & Handlingess
Excelent, i have driven the vehicle in all types of roads including the worst type and due to better suspension chances of udercariage hitting aginst the ground barrier are less than swift although swift has higher ground clearance( as previous car was swift).
Final Words:
There seems lot of confusion about the product this may be due to lack of thrust in the area of marketing, but it is a safe product and european product seems obsessed with quality whereas japs product is best balance between price and performance, and may be that is why maruti appeals to so many indians.
Areas of improvement
After sale service should be vigorus, and company must try to take regular inputs from owners, and manual provided with fabia is of european version and does not match the indian version as a result i have personaly some confusion about vehicles service period and some minor questions still in mind about the vehicle utility and features.

Exterior As good as any other car.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Very classy & qulity of plastics is very good. build qality is excellent.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is very good but initial kick is not as good as swift.you can easily drive around 3rd gear in 20kmph speed. As for as fuel consumption is concerned,inside city it gives me 11.5km to 12km with AC ON & on the highway it gives around 16kmpl with AC ON for full strech of drive.
Ride Quality & Handling Its very good Highway car. Very stable even at 140-160 speed and none of the other contemporary hatchback does not match this one particularly.

Final Words Go buy this one i have been driving this car for last two years & i am done around 39,45l kmpl except one change in the warranty replacement of AC compressor which was giving some weird noise. they just repalced it for me. other than than there is nothing i replaced.
Areas of improvement May be add some more horse power. Skoda does not come with default speakers at the back & that does not go well with SKODA brand. Improve on the service.

Exterior Nicely design and eye catcy.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The most important feature of this car is it's leg room. Even for a heighted person like me, it's very comfortable. I tried various models before opting for Skoda Fabia, but finally decided to go for it. Seat belts for the back seat passengers is a unique feature in this segment.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Apart from noisy engine, i dont think there is any major issue. I am getting almost 15 kms/L w/out AC with so much of traffic. I am sure this will increase once you are on highways.
Ride Quality & Handling Nice cool feeling while driving this vehicle. Easy handling.

Areas of improvement Need to improve on Milegae as other competitive cars are ahead on this and yes, something urgently needs to do with engine noise. The sound is somtime so annoying that u feel like driving a Diesel car.Another issue is after sale service as very few dealers are there in the city.

I bought my fabia 1.2 tdi just amonth ago,and i m more then satisfied with its prformance,well people say its not upto the swift or i20 but I think its a diffrent class car, u dont go boom always,its little slower then both but i like it very much, its sounds more becoz its 3 cylinder tdi engine,its produce same power campare to the swift but its heaver then swift, Fabia has more cabin space more comfort qualitymaterial is used noit like marutis and hundaiys fit and finish is way ahead then its rival and what i think if u r looking diffrent car then others then just go for fabia its excelent even 6 fit hight persone can sit comfertably behind the driver and its compitly drivers car, New fabs engine is superb right now i m gettinh mileage off 21 kml with ac on thats superb,engine is little noisy but hey all that features quality its nothing to think and i m comlitly satisfied

Exterior This is the real 'perfect car' no feature which overwhalems and no feature lagging, all the things are at its place and as much as needed, no jazzy gadgets [ although those are useless if the basic machine is not perfect hence not needed ]no fancy stearing / bluetooth / features, which hardly matters , the engine and driving comfor is best in class, only thing which lacks is the rare wash wiper, i do not understand how such a pefect car can miss on it.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Interiors are good, but the car is meant for 4 ONLY, its not a 5 seater car.
