- The Exter Hy-CNG Duo was launched earlier today
- Punch was the first car in the segment to get twin CNG cylinder technology
Earlier today, Hyundai introduced the Exter with twin CNG cylinders for the Indian market, with prices starting at Rs. 8.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The new technology, called Hy-CNG Duo, will be sold alongside the single CNG cylinder derivative and is expected to be carried on to other CNG cars in its range such as the Grand i10 Nios and the Aura.
Hyundai isn’t the first to introduce this technology as Tata launched it in its range of products, including the Tiago, Tigor, and the rival to the Exter, which is the Punch. Let us now look at the technical specifications of both the cars that fight it out in the B-SUV segment.
Starting with the Exter, the model is powered by a 1.2-litre, bi-fuel (petrol and CNG) motor developing 68bhp and 95Nm of torque, while the Punch, in its CNG form, produces 72bhp and 95Nm of torque. Both cars are available only with a five-speed manual transmission.
In terms of mileage, the Tata Punch iCNG is claimed to return 26.99km/kg while the Hyundai Exter Hy-CNG Duo returns a claimed mileage of 27.1km/kg. There is a minor difference when it comes to the mileage of both cars, but for better comparison, we would test these cars for real-world mileage in the coming months.
