Maruti's Brezza was launched in the indian car market to add to fill up the mini-suv segment of the MSIL. It is a sub 4-metre mini suv. It's now in the indian market for a quite some time and the sales have never been disappointing despite the recession in the indian auto as well as overall economy.
Exterior- The very first thing you will notice while looking at the exterior is the typical boxy design. Yes, it may not be that good for aerodynamics but it still doesn't fail to catch the eyes. Over the time since launch small changes have been made to the exterior in the facelift models. It looks like a miniature version of a SUV with decent design and curves along with big wheels and projector headlamps. Chrome is used for front grille.
Interior- As soon as you enter the vehicle you may feel like you are sitting in a Swift but with more space and and height. It's an all black interior with leather seats in higher variants. It gets an adjustable armrest between driver and front passenger seats, sunglass holder, mirror on both sunblinds. Higher variants also get puddle lamps
Features- Top of the end model( zdi+) gets a host of features. It features Suzuki's smartplay infotainment unit which supports apple carplay, android auto, mirrorlink function apart from cruise control, auto headlamps, rain sensing automatic wipers, push start-stop button and automatic climate control.
Engine and performance- Unfortunately it is only available with one diesel engine option but the gearbox offered is a 5 speed manual and an 5- speed AMT. Engine is a 1.3 L ddis engine which puts max 89 ps of power at 40000 rpm and max torque of 200 nm at 1800-2000 rpm. Claimed ARAI mileage is 24.3 kmpl while in practice it returns the fuel economy of upto 21 kmpl on highway and 17-18 kmpl in city. Some amount of turbo lag can be felt below 1800 rpm but it's the mid range where it actually shines. Engine revs till 5000 rpm.
Safety and comfort- Brezza is rated for 4 stars in NCAP crash test thanks to ABS along with EBD, dual front airbags, Isofix child seat anchors, Front seatbelts with pre-tensioner and load limiter. Parking sensors and reverse camera also adds to safety.
Talking about the comfort, seats are extremely comfortable with bolsters. Suspension absorbs every bump in it's stride. Still the bigger potholes could be felt but that is also not inconvenient. Rear seat is wide enough for 2 adults and 1 child to seat comfortably. 3 adults can also sit at the backseat but their shoulders might rub with each other. Headroom is not an issue for people with height upto 6 ft.
Handling- It uses an EPS(electronic power steering) which means the steering can't provide much feel and feedback to the driver to feel engaged with car. Although response to the steering inputs is quite decent. It is lighter at the low speed and weighs up brilliantly at higher speeds.
Price- Ex- showroom price at mumbai starts at 7.67 for ldi and all the way up to 10.64 for zdi plus dual tone AGS(AMT)
Pros- Design, fuel economy, after sales service, features, safety
Cons- low power, slight amount of body roll
