I own a 2000 model of 5-speed 800 dx.The best feature i like in this car is its reliability.Covered almost a distance of 108512kms,the only money which I think I have spent in its maintenance is of changing the tyres thrice.Rest no other spare of the car has been changed.Where can u get such a reliability!!.I always get a mileage of 16-17kmpl in the city & 22-23kmpl on the highways with the a/c on.Even after 8 years of its ownership, u can't guess that it has already covered 1 lac kilometers.the body is glossy just as it was in the showroom.I have also tried a santro xp model of 2003.I had to sell it due to the rusting complaint...
I AM ASTONISHED AS WHY MARUTI HAS DISCONTINUED SUCH AN OUTSTANDING MODEL...I THINK,, JUST TO REDUCE A COMPETITOR FOR ITS ALTO!!!!!

I purchased a used 800 BSIII which was driven for 45000 kms. I driven it for around 3000 kms. Its really good if you are looking for a basic model. Decent space inside. Very good fuel economy 17-18kmpl(mostly in city but less trafic). Even though its already driven for 45k kms I found engine is very smooth. It has adequate power to carry 5 people but with AC on it really struggles. I felt we can switch on AC only on highways where u dont have gear changes. AC is below average and still it takes lot of power. Shock absorpers are not good. May be because this is old car, am not really sure. People told me to go for a new Alto. I dont want to spend 3.3 lakhs by taking 2l loan and repaying with interest. So I bought this. And now am happy with my decision. It really didnt disappoint me. And resale value. I bought it for 1.3L. Its 2007 model. I checked with maruthi true value. If am exchanging it next year its value is some where aroung 1.15L to 1.2L. So I really didnot loose anything.

Exterior It has got a beautiful silky exterior.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The space in rear seat is little less with less leg room.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Superb superb n superb, it roares like gir lion.
Ride Quality & Handling Delicate but rough n tough dashing darling.
Final Words I purchased on 29-02-2008,silky silver sedan 756 c.c. 3 sylinder, chasis:so 2704440,eng:in 3923084 n never given my comfortable tiny little family city car for service nor i asked any mechanic to do except changing all oil, water once a year at the time of its birthday in my presence because service engineer will change its company set pulse.
Areas of improvement If the chasis placed only at 7.5 cms high with adjustable driver seat will give a cofortable drive with clear road vision. if company give a tar coating under the flooring will of great a help to the customer.

I woned my car since 1996. Actully before buying the car I spoke with many peple, the intention of buying a new car. and almost all of them told me to buy maruthi-800. I was surprised to hear this commands from about 90%, and I realised the reason why they suggested after buying the car. It is really a worth. It is a worth one because now in this modern life style all people like to go after stylish car and homes and some of them own it too. But after getting it then they find difficulty to maintain it properly. But in case of the Maruthi-800, it is very easy to maintain and the fuel conseption also is acceptipable for the medium type family. From 1996 till now I never bored to use my car. It has become the part of my life and suggest, whoever have the intention to buy a car. My family members are very much happy with our car. A big thaks for Maruthi to produce such kind of car for the people. Thank you.
Areas of improvement If you can please add one more A/C nob in the left side as we have in the driver side.
I like the the overall perfomance.There should be one more a/c nob in the left side infront.

Exterior AS USUAL AND NOT IMPRESSIEVE.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) LEG SPACE IS GOOD BUT THE BOOT SPACE IS NOT SATISFYING AT ALL. INTERIOR IS DULL AND LOW LIGHTED.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox ENGINE PERFORMANCE IS THE WORST OF ALL AND FUEL ECONOMY IS JUST GREAT ( 9.03 KMPL IN TOWN* AND 16.53 KMPL IN HIGHWAY*)
* WITHOUT AC. GEAR SHIFTHING IS ANNOYING AND IRRITATING.. DOES'NT CHANGE EASILY.
MOST IMPRESSIVE IS AIR CONDITIONONG SYSTEM BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAVE ANY EFFECT AFTER 9:00 AM IN THE MORNING TILL 5:00 PM IN THE EVENING. JUST 0.5 TON AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM WITH 6 VALVE 3 CYLINDER ENGINE. NIGHT DRIVING IS WORST OF ALL WITH HEADLIGHTS ON AND AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM ON THE ENGINE GROANS AND LOOSES PICK UP. DRIVING BECOMES JUST HELL.
Ride Quality & Handling NOT AT ALL COMFORTABLE. THE STUD MOUNTS AND SHOCK ABSORBERS ARE OF NO USE. DRIVER AND PASSENGERS CAN FEEL THE SHOCKS AND JERKS. ZERO (0) IN TERMS OF COMFORT AND HANDLING.
Final Words MPFI ENGINE DOES'NT SUIT THIS SMALL CAR. MPFI ENGINE IS NOT MEANT FOR THIS CAR. CARBEAURATOR MODEL WAS THE BEST. MPFI ENGINE DELIVERS VERY LOW MILEAGE AND PICKUP. WORST ENGINE EVER.
Areas of improvement REPLACE THE MPFI ENGINE WITH THE CARBEAURATOR MODEL. PERHAPS M800 MAY REGAIN ITS LOST PERFORMANCE AND STATUS.

This December, my Maruti 800 completes 15 long years with me. It travelled along with me all these years to all the places I stayed. But my wife and children are not very amused by my special attachment towards the cute small green car. They tried all these years to cajole, coerce and intimidate me to buy a better car. All the three of them used to show me every new car on the road and narrate the advantages of buying one of them. And I hated any such narration and retorted them with the merits of my Maruti 800.
I keep telling them, ‘as long as this car takes us to our destination without any trouble, I don’t think there is any necessity for a change’. Though its use has come down these days because of the leased vehicle from the organization where I am working, I used to travel hundreds of kilometres in my Maruti on my trips to my native place earlier.

I have booked a maruti 800 and selected the vehicle with specifik Engine No.(i.e.3876365)and Chasis No. at Bimal Maruti Model Show room at white field Bangalore on15-12-07 and made all payments accordingly. While I have asked the dealer for specifik RegistrationNo. of the vehicle , they promised me to intimate me while registration and I may have to pay extra to RTO for the No.which I have agreed to.Till the date of delivery of the vehicle I was not contacted by Dealer and on 17 Jan 08 I was asked to take the delivery of the vehicle. On seeing the vehicle made ready for delivery ,it was some different vehicle than that of selected by me while booking .I have taken up the matter with manager but he was not able to solve the problem. It is requested that The same vehicle with Engine No. mentioned above be delivered to me .

Nothing beats as far as quality of its exterior can only perjaps surpassed by another oldie-Ambassodor by Hindustan motors.Inspite of being bumped by two wheelers and big four wheels,it just doe not easily yeild

Interior is quite oudated.If we dont demand too much it can easily sit 5 medium size adults.If u want to leoad further with kids,it still welcomes!
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
Engine performance is quite good except when you accelerate it beyond 60 kmph where it just stares back at you!Fuel economy is quite impressive even in bumper to bumper traffic where it constantly gives around 14 kmpl.Gear box is ok but not contemporary
Ride Quality & Handling
Ride quality in city would be good,if it doesnt have too many pot holes or speed breakers which ar hill-like.But in a ordinary town of our country,you have to amke road survey before choosing this car.Handling might have been better if it has got power steering while starting the engine.Otherwise it doesnt differ much from Alto

It is buy when you are financially constrained and commuting in narrow lanes yet looking for good mileage
