       The following letter addressed to customer service Hyundai, but request was turned down stating that it was a wear and tear (within 33000 Kms!!!) and depends on driving habits. Judge for yourself and then go for buying an i20          

       Sub : Failure of Clutch – Manufacturing Defect – Regarding

                  Ref :    1) Regn Nr PY 01 AX 5545 – i20 Magna – 2009 model

                              2) Mileage covered – 33345

       

      I purchased an i20 Magna  in September 2011. Ever since I purchased the vehicle I have been getting it serviced only in your authorized service stations.

       

      On 29th April 2012, Sunday I left Pondicherry for Chennai alongwith my wife and son. As I was driving on the Pondy Tindivanam highway, I had an uneasy feeling in steering the vehicle. However, we managed to reach the Athur tollgate on the Tindivanam – Chennai highway. After paying the toll I tried to steer the vehicle ahead but the clutch pedal got stuck and did not get released. After repeated attempts failed, my wife and son pushed the vehicle to the edge of the highway and I immediately called your ERS team, Pondicherry. Your ERS team heard my version and advised me to try using the clutch after 10 – 15 minutes and stated that if it does not work then the vehicle need to be towed to your service station in Pondy. They also stated that it could take a few hours to reach the spot as they were attending to yet another breakdown call. Alternatively, they suggested that we hire a LCV like TATA Ace locally and tow the vehicle to Pondy service station. Sometime later the clutch got released and I re – started my journey back to Chennai.

      The clutch pedal failed once again near the Paranur toll gate near Chingleput . My wife and son had to push the vehicle once again to the edge of the highway. From my past experience at the previous toll gate, I allowed the vehicle for 30 minutes and re – started my journey to Chennai. As I was driving I realized that if the vehicle was not brought to the neutral gear while it is nearing a temporary halt like toll gate or signal the clutch was functional. I called up your Ambattur service station and drove to the service station straight away.

      The service advisor attended to the vehicle and informed me that the sleeve cylinder of the clutch and master cylinder has to be investigated.

      The clutch sleeve cylinder assembly was found defective and was replaced, the cost of the spare including labour was Rs.2479/- (Spare Rs.2229/- + Labour Rs.250/-). The service advisor informed me that the spare had to be charged as the vehicle did not have an extended warranty.

      I request you to kindly refund the amount of Rs.2479/- spent by me towards cost of the spare considering the fact that it was a manufacturing defect and this defect could be noticed only when the vehicle travels a long distance and when the engine gets heated up. As I was invariably use the vehicle within Pondy for the past 9 months I could not experience the failure.

      Though the vehicle completed 2 years of warranty in September 2011, I did not opt for an extended warranty owing to the confidence I reposed on the vehicle. But within 7 months from the date of completion of 2 years and that too when the vehicle has covered only33345 Kms it is surprising that the customer has been advised to pay for a manufacturing defect which the customer cannot detect unless he goes for a long drive. Moreover, any vehicle should perform at its best only when it goes on a long drive. You will also appreciate that the vehicle was serviced at your Pondy service station only in March 2012 at 32842 Kms when the defect was not noticed even by your service personnel, understandably the defect can be noticed only when the vehicle travels a long distance and gets heated up.

       

      I trust Kun Hyundai will honour its commitment to a valued customer, who has rated the vehicle best in various websites such as car dheko and similar websites.

      Since i20 was very much in the list of the cars under consideration, I requested the dealer to send the vehicle (i20 petrol base version) at my residence. They sent a white Magna version of petrol model.

      First look at the car, got appreciation from all the members of my family.

      Inside the space was good. In the rear three persons can sit in a reasonable comfort.

      The inside which looked very impressive in the showroom, was appearing a shade less may be due to the fact each and every details of the material used was visible in bright sunlight. I must say that it is comparable to that of Ritz. Also the seat upholstery used was of greyish colour giving a dull look and not going with the beige and brown scheme.

      The pick up of the vehicle was satisfactory. I had seen reviews that i20 petrol is sluggish due to underpowered engine but  it is almost as good as Ritz  .I drove the car at 110 kmph on the same patch of road where I had tested Ritz ( also achieved a speed of 110 ).

       At speeds over 80, I noticed a loud "Dag Dag" sound in the cabin as if whole of the cabin was vibrating or resonating. The sound was so loud that my family panicked and the dealer rep. also asked me to stop the vehicle immediately. He thoroughly checked the car but could find nothing except overheating/burning smell from underneath the car. The explanation he gave to me was that since it is a new car, there was overheating smell. I don’t really  buy that explanation.

      Just to recheck the problem i once again drove the car over 80 and again there was the same sound .The sound disappeared once i rolled up the rear window glass which was open earlier.

      Due to the problems, I cut short the test drive as overheating smell continuously coming from under the vehicle.

      The next day, a senior manager of the dealer called me to assure that nothing is wrong with the product and may be there can be a minor defect in the test car. Also he said that if one of the window glass is down at high speeds, such sound is bound to come due to aerodynamic design of the vehicle. Since i am engineer by profession i do not agree to that explanation. I am keen to know if somebody has also experienced the same.

      Exterior Looks lot better than swif, fabia from behind. i would say there is no comparison of i20 with figo, liva of beat diesal. although i agree there is some chance that fabia looks bit expensive car from front side. i20 don't looks biger in size, but i measured the difference when in pourche i hardly found space to walk after parking i20, while at the same pourche alto was giving the way even to my bike. power foldabe orvm gives u a feel of being special.

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Awsome. specially the first thing is stearing is heart-taking. although some probs are also i.e. we cant switch off the music system, a/c vents always gives some air, even after swithcing off the ac. some probs with blue-tooth also. but all these are minor.

      Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Lovely i m getting 18 kmpl with diesal with huge power. gear shift could be some more smooth. but can't say it is bad.

      Ride Quality & Handling While i drive it, i felt like i m driving any real big car or of suv. very comfortabe. no vibration or any prob even on 160. only the prob is to control the speed bcoz u have to be very patient to drive it in indian road's speed limit (90 kmpl).

      Final Words Lovely car, but not for the ruff rods due to low ground clearance.

      Areas of improvement High ground clearance despretly required for such a sporty car. one more thing that should be in it is 'parking sensors'. i hit my car with others' 3 times in first 15 days during backing it.

      I bought I 20 magna diesel in the month of februrary, and i have driven around 6000 Kms. everything is good about the car, but i am not happy with the mileage. its giving me only 14Km/L of diesel. Which is not that good for a diesel car. May be after first service or so... It might improve.


      Exterior- -Fairly good, one will not get bored with the exteriors in comparison to other hatchback like Swift.

       

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)- excellent. It has got many features like steering adjust, ac vent in the dash board case, automatic climate control. Good boot space. two big bags can easily adjust when you go for holidays or so.

      driving is very comfortable be it in the city or in the highway.

       

      Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox- Engine is fine, but low fuel economy.

      Overall its good, but it pinches the pocket, because other cars in this segment are better fuel economic cars. Performance wise its good. very nice pick up.

      The only problem with the car is fuel economy, which should be taken care of.

      Serious complaint in My i20 from beginning and no one listening, I purchased i 20 Sportz model two years back and that clocked 69000 something. I started complaining about this problem from second service of car. My car has problem of break jam and leather of wheel disk get finish in only 5000 k.m of run. car's front alloys are always black with the waste of break leathers. Car is not running smooth its running with efforts like jam from front wheels. i started reporting this to company service center (Samta Hyundai, karnal, from where i purchase the car) from second service of car @ 10000 k.m , service center / agency people charge for service and they check with test run and say that your car is ok but i am suffering with this problem in my new car. I find out a self solution what i am doing when my car get jam and i stop my car side by and off switch and pressing the break paddle 10-15 time and then start the car , car get smooth run for next 20-30 k.m,and once i starting applying break in traffic the car get same problem again. but nobody is understanding the problem with car. I have Purchased this car from SAMTA HYUNDAI, Karnal, Haryana. and all services made by this agency. from my second service i am reporting same complaint , company can check this in records but Samta Hyundai , karnal, is not resolving the problem of my car. My i20 car registration nr. is HR05 AG 6962, I have another brand cars also, I have 2009 model Swift Vdi, Which is the best car i ever have. i love to drive that till now that clocked 220000 k.m and drive of that car is still like new one. I have Toyota Innova also that is clocked 25000 k.m super car with nice service centers. But i am disappointed with India's second leading brand Hyundai and worst after sales service. nobody is looking after sales of car. I am very serious with car problem now, if company hyundai will not listen my complaint and will not rectify it, i will burn this car infront of Hyundai motors agency Samta motors karnal yard in the presence of media also.       I bought a I20 Magna a week ago and having been praising myself that I took the right decision. It has been a pleasure driving it and I have already clocked 450 Kms on it.

      The inside of the car is as spacious as the SX4 I already own. The Steering is amazing and the handling is so smooth that I can compare that to Corolla Altis. Though I found the brakes to be less effective without the ABS. When you look at the car from the front, it looks as the same size at Honda City (old model). I am getting around 15 Kmpl and I have already drove it to a speed of 130Km per hour and it was rock stable on the highway.

      Only thing I didnot like in the car for the stereo output whcih lacks quality and that you need to press the clutch way too far. Otherwise, for the price that I paid for it ... I think it was a steal.

      I would recommend this car anytime for people looking for something between a Santro and a SX4.

      Just bought an i20 Asta.Prior to that I just had a short test drive as the dealer didn't have a demo car.Had heard a lot about this car being underpowered and I was slightly apprehensive about it.However,all my fears vanished as soon as I put my foot on the accelerator pedal.Super smooth acceleration,terrific manoeuvrability,great driving position for a 5'6" person due to height adjustable seat, butter smooth power steering which is not at all a disadvantage,convenient on steering controls,decent integrated audio system,efficient fully automatic climate control system ,large rear view mirror,cabin light on/off with remote key control,light in the boot are the features which can instantly impress any car lover.Rear seating space is adequate and so is the boot. However,the only disadvantage I felt is not so good Ground clearance and somewhat average pick up which is adequate for the city drive but lacks the punch on the highways especially after a slowdown. Road handling is decent and it handles the bigger bumps like speed breakers and rumble strips with ease ,literally gliding on them . However,considering all the pros and cons it is a great vehicle which delivers for every penny paid specially if compared to others in this segment viz.Honda Jazz and Skoda Fabia.       Exterior From Front its a Mercedes look alike. Sharp curvy lines helps the dynamic design. Body color handle, Bumper and mirror looks awesome. From back it resembles with Swift a bit. 

       

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Great features such as Gear shift indicator, Nice Music system with good bass and treble response, USB and Aux. The new Silver finish over music system and AC vents looks great. Seats are very comfortable and fabric quality is good. The rear seats are spacious and comfortable. Theres is sufficient space for front and rear leg room. AC cooling is also up to the mark. However Finishing could have been little better with such a premium pricing.

       

      Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Although I am a bit weak in this area being new to driving, will put in what i felt. Engine is quiet and hardly heard from inside. The car engine heats up quickly after half an hour of learning driving (mostly on 1st and 2nd gear). I guess this is the normal behavior. The demo guy said this will become normal after first service. The power of the engine was found adequate over slops and during revving it up. Fuel Economy is a grey area for me so far hence will surely post updates soon on this. Gearbox is smooth and better than swift.

       

      Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality is good. It gets bumpy sometimes while passing over some sharp speed breakers. I guess this is expected from any normal cars. Handling could be bit of a problem due to its class leading width, however "practice makes man perfect".

       

      Final Words Undoubtedly its a nice Premium Hatch. I am very happy with my decision.

      Hi All,

      I was initially planning for the top end i10 asta, but when I entered the showroom (Popular Hyundai - Cochin) I happened to see i20 Asta on display. Though I had fixed my mind on i10, I thought of having a look at i20. Initially I thought that, it's just a bigger car than i10 with the same specs., but when I entered into i20, my whole thought process changed. It may not be the best car, but it is the BEST car in it's class and for the money we spend. I dont want to bore you with the list of features here, as it's already mentioned in CarWale.

      I then took a test drive of it. The drive was too good to complain. Steering wheel has a very good feel. You will start feeling the luxury touch. Everything felt good in the car especially the steering mounted controls, the audio system, s p a c e.. to list a few. More than anything, I liked the feel of being inside the i20. I then changed my mind and booked it then and there. 

      I will get the delivery in a weeks time from now, will surely add on more points once I have i20 in hand.

       

      Humble advice to all of you who are looking for hatchbacks within 5-7lakhs range.. please test drive i20 once, before you decide.

       

      Exterior Looks compact from outside, but large space inside! 

       

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Compare it with the feature list of C segment cars (a class above i20), and you will find i20 having better features than C segment cars. With a much lower price tag. (Will add on later once I drive it for a while). Cars are obviously a kind of second home for daily users.. you get a good feel when you are inside this car, and this was the key reason for selecting it, for me, being comfortable inside is the most important priority.

       

      Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox 1.2ltr is fair, I donot have experience on the fuel economy, the dealer says it's easily above 14kmpl overall. I'm not a speed driver, in my personal opinion, 1.2ltr engine works just great for both highway and city.

       

      Ride Quality & Handling Steering wheel feels great, better than any other cars which I test drove (punto/swift/fabia/polo)... (except for honda cars). Feels very comfortable in drivers position. Seats can be adjusted in all directions.

       

      Final Words Best car in it's class which I test drove. Will be getting my delivery in a week, Will add more points. I would simply say ; GO FOR IT!

       

      Areas of improvement Automatic options on lower end variants would have been good, especially for elderly and ladies.

       let anybody see the car from the front, and he will definately think this is a biggggg car. Looks like Verna Fluidic from the front. Very good Styling. Nice rear light cluster. Nice lines coming from both the ends on the bonnet makes it looks very attaractive.

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

       List the features it has, and it will easily outsmart other cars in its segment. Even some costlier cars dosent have features what Hyundai offers. Rain sensing wipers, theatre dimming internal light, smart key, USB connectivity, Buetooth Connectivity, Fog Lamps, Steering Controls, Mind blowing power steering, electrically foldable side view mirrors,  ECM type rear view mirror, 4 cup holders, cooled glove box, smart information display, auto climate control A/C., rear view camera, huh, it has got it all.......

      Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

       Nice engine, though it lacks that punch, but seems it is tuned for giving better average. Nice stability on the highways, and city manueveribility is awesome. can just take ur car to anywhere for parking. some what conerned abt the fuel avg. though. Gives aroung 10-11 km/lt. with A/c. but just drove only 300 kms. hope will give around 15-16 after the first service.

      -Ride Quality & Handling

       Nice ride quality but seems suspension lacks smoothness on bumpy roads, but nice to ride otherwise.

      Final Words

       must buy if u r looking for a city car, (though no problems on the highway). if u dosent require a boot space and sheer power go for this car.....
