I bought this car in 2007, right when it was introduced (the CRDi version). What impressed me most was the engine. A superb performance.
I had always liked its styling. Probably the best of the lot.
The interiors are also pretty good. I like the stylign inside. And finish too is high quality.
That said, my personal experience with it, after using it for close to 2 years, is also beyond my expectations. GM being new in India, I had thought their service might not yet be as good as Maruti. But my experience was the opposite. Their 24X7 service is quite good. And I found that the particular service center I go to, tries to go out of its way to satisfy me.
Sitting behind teh wheel is simply a pleasure. But what surprised me was, being a driving enthusuiast, that the rear seat is even better! The seat angle, the leg room, all give a plush feel.
Yes I did miss the sun roof (not being offered at that time in Magnum) & the climate control. I was told this was done to keep the price competetive. But for me, the engine more than made up for these things. the breath taking acceleration is something I cant have enough of.
A very good car. Being a Chevrolet, makes it even better!

Exterior the exterior of the car is highly classy. it might not be as fancy as a Honda civic or a Chevy Cruz, but the exterior is chrome finished and hence it looks very classy.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) An executive style interiors. the wood finish in the interior of the vehicles gives a rich class to the car. in terms of other features the lumbar support and the height adjustment feature is quiet beneficial for the driver as you can adjust ur seat according to way you need. the a/c blower is very good and the car gets cooled instantly. the cooler in the glove box is a very good feature as this will be useful for most of the people across india. I find that people are comparing the space of the car with honda city. If you notice, the car is actually equal to the size of Honda civic. im extremely suprised to see people comparing magnum with honda city. the car comes with leather apolustry and one point to mention is the leg room. even if ur tall u can find urself comfortable. you have lots of space to strech ur legs.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The engine is 2.0 liter. it's extremely powerful even the skoda Octavia which was a competitive for magnum was not a 2.0 liter engine. the segments of cars when u take for comparison such as corolla altis diesel which is only 1.4 engine. if u compare it with fiat Linea, Linea is again an 1.3 liter engine. Verna or fiesta are no way in comparison with this car.even the new vento is only a 1.6 liter engine. you might ask a question about mileage. im an owner of the new magnum and to be frank im getting a mileage of 12 kms in the city. i'm sure that this will increase as the engine gets tuned.
The gear box is quiet amazing in no exaggeration. if u test drive the car u will know it.
Final Words The car is an amazing car. now the price being reduced it a car to think before booking another car in the same segment.

Final Words I have gone for Long Drives with my family many times in last 2 years. My Dad loves to drive as fast as possible but he can not enjoy much because as soon as it corsses 160, reaches 170 and about to cross 170, my Mom does not let him do it, she says no no no please or let me get down. Its such a great car that you will not feel it is at so high speed unless you see the speedometer. I Love my Car and when ever i change, I will choose to "CRUZE" the "Diesel Rocket". Anybody who will Drive it , i am sure will Fall in luv with Chevy.
Areas of improvement Have some latest technology Music Systems. Its need of Time and Young Generation.

Exterior The looks are really good. It may not be as stylish as some other cars but looks grand.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Very spacious. Back seats are very comfortable. Only the middle seat is slightly uncomfortable because of the hand rest folded up. Stereo system is good but does not come with a USB port. AC has climate control and a big display screen. Steering controls are missing.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is one of the best in terms of power and economy. It has superb power and gives the feeling of a petrol car. The gear shift is slighly hard. The second gear does not pull at low speeds and we have to shift to 1st, this is be quite an irritant in heavy traffic. The 2 horn buttons are small and hard. For Indian traffic you expect big buttons as we use them often. The indicator switch and wiper switches are interchanged compared to Maruti and other Japanese vehicles and therefore needs getting used to.
Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality is excellent and gives you a sense of control even at high speeds. Pick up is the best in its class. It just zooms on highways and overtaking is a joy. Being a big car, city driving may be difficult, but is an excellent vehicle for highways.
Final Words Best value for money. It has all the features of a luxury car - power, comfort, space. It is the best buy.
Areas of improvement Gear ratios for 1st and 2nd gear. Horn buttons to be bigger and smoother, USB port in stereo system.

For 5 people its conjugate and for long drives above 300km is not much advised as you will not feel very comfortable after that many KM's. Nice car for daily use, empale space for luggage have nice road present and a nice car.

Exterior Hi, I own a caviar black optra magnum. The paint quality is special and looks wet and rich. The tail lamps design and the red color set in black body....delicious!
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Interiors look plush and wow passengers when they step in and look around. The wood finish on the interior door panel and the dash add to the 'old money' feel. The selection of backlights (green-colored) on the cluster and the equipment in the front look 'just ok'. Not even as good as those in a Hyundai Accent, for instance.
Mine is an LT model so the leather seats and inner door panels look great. Rear seats wide and comfortable. Arm rest for that extra comfort.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine performance of my 2 ltr diesel motor is mind -boggling. Smooth transmission and power delivery is linear. like most dielels, noisy at cold start...but quietens down to a smooth purr pretty quickly. I use System D fuel additive and with this, I find the engine smoother and quieter with no visible exhause smoke. Fuel economy is nothing to write home about I get 360 to 370 km per 30 ltrs. I have a relaxed driving style and do not push the car around. I keep the tires properly inflated and drive with window glasses raised. But make no mistake, the car has a brute of an engine and is quite agile for its size! Gear changing is notchy and goes clackety clack and it quitens for some time after greasing during service.
I drive alone most of the time except during weekends when my wife and kids ride with me. At these times it pays to be careful when negotiating the road bumps. If u go too fast over them, you are apt to hear a heart-wrenching 'thack" from the underbelly. But you will learn quickly not to hurt the car!
Ride Quality & Handling Wow...super! the independent suspension makes for a cushioned ride in Bangalore's apology for roads. Capable of enduring quite a bit of torture. Looks, feels and behaves like an expensive car.
Final Words I have had this car for nearly a year and have done about 11000K - long enough to know the car well. THis car kind of grows on you and like good wine, gets better and classier with age. Let's just say I am deeply in love with my Optra Magnum 2.0 LT. My car and I share a very special bond.
Areas of improvement Design of horn buttons could be better. They are small and difficult to find. Takes some getting used to. Can be frustrating especialy when u quickly need to toot.
The engine start key slot ring angle needs a review, it would probably be easier to find if it had illumination a la SX4. The art leather-bound user manual does not easily fit into the glove box. Glove box should be illuminated.
The green background lights should be changed to amber, but not in-your-face amber like the....... oops! lets just say like some of the other cars in this segment.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel looks good but could do with a little contouring for better grip.
The useful documents and other knick-knacks holder at the elbow of the driver (under the arm rest) should be pushed forward so the driver can look into the box without twisting his neck out if its socket.
Finally the wheels could have been slightly bigger - may be Cruz - size. Would improve 'personality'! Tires get dirty far too quickly - the walls I mean...takes away somewhat from its overall looks. The SX4 and the Hyundai Emberra tires for example manage the city dust better!
Believe you me, I really had to think hard to list the 'points for improvement'. I am no auto expert and therefore will not nitpick. For a simple user like me it is an honest-to-goodness car! Congratulations to GM for designing this car for India! Wah bhai wah!😄

Exterior I own a Black color, purchased on July'11 it's very elegant and stylish when you look from teh exterior paert of view.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Very comfort interiors and good legroom for people who are more than 6 it's the best in its class.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Superb Engine with 121.5 PS of power you can feel the power while driving. It can overtake Vernas and skodas(Laura) on highway its simply superb drive it to feel it.
Final Words Before going to GM had testdrived Verna, Vento both are good look wise and also good value for money but, what made me to go for the Rocket is the power and the 2l engine its simple superb. 2nd point was the space since my dad and me are 6 opted to go for this with good comfort space both in the front and back which was not there in both verna and Vento Skoda learnt about the maintenance and dropped the plan to buy. Tha above mentioned is my personal opinion and doesn want to hurt direct or indirectly anyone.Awsome, feel it while drive it Amazing car.
Areas of improvement Need to upgrade the interiors and USB for Audi Sys.. every thing else looks good and I felt the value for money.

After studying, reading reviews and comparing cars I finally chose to buy a Cheverlet Magnum LT, white colour.
Being a top end model, it has most of the basic features.
The car is good, But Unfortunately I landed up in a manufacturing defect of tyre and the trouble began.
The problem is that car vowels at low speed of 30-40kmph (this started at 2000km)
I first checked the alignment and balancing but it didn’t worked so I registered complaint to the dealer.
Later came to know that this is a problem of Goodyear tyre.
So the respective engineer checked the tyres 2 times, when I was asked to bring the vehicle to the service station.
All in vein.
The service station is 100km from my place and I am asked to bring the vehicle again and again for checking.
Once I sent the vehicle and the engineer didn’t turn up.
No one is bothered to take care and you feel angry after paying 11.75lacs.
Or otherwise the car is good.
Good Points:
Good exterior. Leather upholstery. Excellent power and pick-up.
Bad Points:
Noisy engine at low speeds. service support!! lack of 6th gear.
This is a big drawback. Company should have provided 6th Gear. At 140 car is at 3000rpm and I don’t feel like stretching it further. (My Scoda Laura instead catches up 160 to 180 easily because of the 6th Gear.)

Exterior Superb color n design n look very good on the road.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Ultimate leather seat cover and Alpine music system and too spacious to sit.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Super engine but less milage as per company claims its doesnt come ot and gearbox have the probem ..depends when the problem come but its comes in all cars.
Ride Quality & Handling Comfortable riding but handling is very high and expensive spare parts except service lot of money owner had to pay from pocket. As compare with other company the dealer have high spare parts n in market its available in reasonable rate but in chevrolet u cant get the spares parts in open market and too high rate in dealers too.
Final Words Ultimate car but lacking behind due to worse after sale service and worse n bad company management cooperation, The company doesnt look for customer satisfaction at all..just sitting there for there salary.
Areas of improvement Spares parts should be at very less rate so that a customer can afford it and get genuine parts, listen to customer n make them satisfy...Think for customer to have the company for long periods. me too have problem and company asking to pay from pocket and according to me company should pay for it, it should not happen tht u drive 50000 km n pay rs 50000 from ur pocket.
