Skoda Superb [2009-2014] User Reviews

I purchased second hand October 2010 model Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI AT car from Mr. Anil Shamjibhai Patel of Surat. On very third day after running for just 150 km including 100 km for bringing car from Surat to Valsad the car stopped with display that the "Gear Box is over heated". The car could not move at all. So I call the Skoda Authorized dear - Torque Automotive, Surat and I was informed that the failure is due to Mechatronics. I was told that changing the same will cost Rs. 1.90 lakh. When I inquired about the guarantee, surprisingly I was informed that the kilometre is tempered so Skoda company can't give any guarantee on new parts replacement. It is difficult to know whether the kilometers are tempered in very good looking second hand cars. Now my car is in the Skoda workshop - I am worried whether to make payment of 1.90 lakh and get it repaired for which I have paid premium price for the good condition or forget the car because I don't know whether it will run smoothly later. I request all buyers of second hand cars to get the car checked by authorized workshop before buying such premium cars to save yourself from getting cheated and in the condition in which I am today. Because tempering with kilometer is actually a crime, but I have paid money so now nothing could be done.Good exterior & styleWorst mechatronics

I booked a Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI AT on 2nd December 2010, after canceling my former choice a Honda Accord AT. Initially, I was hesitant. After all, the horrific stories of Skoda After-Sales & Support is quite popular. Hence my initial choice was Honda Accord 2.4 AT. I also own a Honda City, 1.5 Exi Since July 2000, and their service quality has never let me, or my car down till date.

I had also booked the Accord, but just for satisfying my internal feeling that 'The Accord can't beaten', i went to Autobahn Skoda, and took a test drive of the Skoda Superb 2.0 AT TDI (Diesel).

The result - I was blown away! Skoda Superb is an incredibly fast, stable, luxurious (far more than the Accord), feature rich, strong vehicle. It is a vehicle in which you can be a CEO in the morning, and racer-boy by night. One could drive her for a thousand kiometeres, and neither the car nor you would feel tired. It has the feel you would get in a German make vehicle, and, at a Rs. 10 lakh lesser than the Germans (Mercedes, Audi, BMW).

The suspension setup is perrrrrrrfect for indian roads, and the cabin space, rear legroom, front legroom, are all, by far, the best in its class (rivaling ofcourse, the Mercs and Audis). The Vehicle is feature rich, from an inbuilt bluetooth / touch-screen audio system, to Adaptive Front Head Lights, to Hill Descend Control, and many more, all of which you will not get in the Accord. 

The test-drive guy went so far as to run the car over a medium sized speed-breaker with three other passengers in the car, at 120 kmph! And, there was not even a slight jerk. With its saftety features, it is highly unlikely that a person could die in the event of the car crashing in a bad situation. 

As far as the service is concerned, Skoda Mumbai (Autobahn and JMD) have opened around 5 new outlets to meet with the increasing demand. Thus technically, they can provide a better service than what they used to with only 2 outlets. Yes, the Honda Service is absolutely relaxed, but upon observation, the Skoda Service today ain't so bad either.

The Accord, on the other hand is a more relaxed drive. Its more calm, quiet, and something you wouldn't have the heart to race in, if at all there is place for the feel of racing. The Accord is larger than the Superb on the outside, but on the inside, the Superb is larger, more comfortable, more upmarket, more lively.

 

BUT.....

 

Today is Monday, 28/02/2011.
Three months, and to this day, AutoBahn Skoda has not yet recieved Skoda Superb from Skoda India Pvt Ltd. I've done numerous visits, phonecalls, expressing dissapointment, even repenting my decision now, and to no avail. I don't blame Autobahn, or JMD (I also tried at JMD to see if I could get it earlier here), but Skoda India Pvt Ltd. After they released their Superb in 2009, they could see that it is doing really well. They could have shipped their CKD units from Czech to India in-order to meet up with the demand. or were they fu**king asleep??? The latest i get to hear is that some units "WILL BE RECEIVED IN THE COMING 14 DAYS"

Keeping the Skoda timing record, 14 Days = 20 Days. Also, after Autobahn gets the vehicle, then comes the Registration, Insurance, Road Tax, Blah Blah. This translates to 7 days more

In effect, I should expect my vehicle between the 27th to 31st March 2011.

4 months in total. 

Conclusion:

If you are that type of person who has the money/can afford the loan, for a Rs.25 lakh car, and want to buy a car within 2 to 3 weeks... SKODA IS NOT FOR YOU,

Go for the Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, Toyota Camry, whichever one you like.

 

If however, you can wait for a never-ending time period to get that one car which impressed you, has it all, and your patience does not turn to anger, then the SKODA IS DEFINITELY for you.

Just about everything on the inside and outsideThe waiting period

Here's a car that has averything a man wants in a car.. 8 airbags,Tweleve speakers, touchscreen centre console for the audio, sunroof, leather interiors, ABS, EBD, ESP and what not.. This has a cabin space more than an E Class.. But what matters is the drive and mind it guys. IT'S AWESOME... the control it has on the normal mode is awesome.. did not try the sports mode as of yet..worth each an every penny of it, conidering the price.. For me it's a better buy than beamer 5 series base or the Merc E base.. both are 36L and 38L respectively while this one is 19L and equally large.. IF u want a car this size and at this price.. this is the best one.. Else look BMW wards.. well Hodna and toyota are not in the league.. they are light weight and does not drive as good too..Loaded With Features.. U name it, u've got it..Interiors available only in beige across all colors..

 

Exterior The look of the Superb is very rich and regal. Skoda has done a fantastic job in making this car stand out from the others, especially after the older Superb, which looked a lot like the Octavia.

 

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) There is no other car in the market in the same price bracket which has Interiors like the Superb. It has features of the E class in a car which is priced much lesser than the C class. Nappa leather, Bolero sound system with 12 speakers, front and rear parking assist, Electronic seats ( both driver and passsenger ).. Overall it is an absolute treat.

 

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The Superb, as we all know now has the Passat engine. The turbo charged engine has got a wonderful zip and feel to it. While in sports mode, one is amazed by the power that is unleashed from under the bonnet. My Superb gives me a city mileage of almost 10 which is fantastic for a big sedan.

 

Ride Quality & Handling You are truly in the lap of luxury once you are in a Superb.. It makes you feel happy.. Happy that you bought it.

 

Final Words I had booked a BMW 3 series and I chose the Superb over it. That sums up all, I guess.The Superb is SUPERB !!!

Excellent Interiors, space, drive, looks..None

First thing first the car's number is 4114. So that it's not fake. not many superb's with that number eh!!?

The thing is that this review has only my experiences and am just sayiNg my opinion

Exterior The best thing about a superb is its exterior. . It's just amazing to look at it. Being a surgeon myself I would compare the Skoda superb with a old person who underwent plastic surgery. Amazing to look at from the outside and full of malfunction on the inside. Not kidding. Atleast to my experience...

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The next best thing after the exterior is it's interior. The plastic surgery thing just didn't end with exterior. The best job was done with space and comfort. I'm more than 6 feet and have no complaints.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Ahh engine where should I start with it. The oil drinking monster, guess lorries need less of engine oil top-ups. than this, Broke down 6 times (4times the check engine light came on and didn't start twice) and this my friends in a span of 3 years. Ohh no it just doesnt end there. The 6th time around the mechatronics failed! Finally the ghost of mechatronics bit this car too.

Final Words will tell that entire glitz with the car further down discussions. Don't want you all to miss out on there exceptional service towards me Think you experienced all the worst after sales support out there. Try Skoda

It's a nightmare experiencing there after sales. Truly #thelegendisback

You call the dealer asking ''n'' number of times about your car status. They don't know 

You ask when the car can be delivered. They don't know.

Call the manager and ask about the problem. He never calls back and after a day straight out ignores you! And the superb is their flagship car in India. If anyone's car got fixed and was delivered before a month from service booking date with their parts readily available, the god has been kind on you ! Not in my case I see.

 Great looking car. Elegant design.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

 Packed with lot of features but lacks some basic things like navigation and blue tooth functionality

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

 The DSG gearbox has a near 100% failure rate. Almost all owners have had to replace it. Same is the issue with the Multi Clutch. High cost replacements... Car scores poor on reliability. Engine is good but overall parts failure rate especially related to gearbox and transmission is excessive. A car which seems good value for money but turns out to be most exepensive to own and maintain.

Ride Quality & Handling

 Ride quality is good but handling is just about average. The suspension have been kept too stiff for Indian roads.

Final Words

 Don't buy this car unless the company makes significant improvements in the quality of parts especially gearbox and transmission.

Areas of improvement  

 Nearly everything. Improve reliability of the car. Reduce the number of trips needed to the service station and improve dealerships.

 

Styling and host of add on featuresPoor reliability. Parts failure rate high. Gearbox faulty.

Exterior Looks good.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Interiors good. AC needs improvement in peak summer.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Car has zero reliability. No reliability of Gearbox. Superb has design defect in Mecatronic which fails repeatedly, most Superb owners have faced this and company has no answer for the same. The vehicle fails without warning, so you cannot take this on high ways or drive at night. After failure the vehicle can be moved in flat bed cranes which are availble in bigger cities, so may have to wait for hours, then cost of towing is high besides repair takes 15-25 days as the parts are imported for car with specifc VIN number.

Ride Quality & Handling Good till it runs but risk is high of failure so avoid.

Final Words Non Reliable, design defect in gearbox and Mecatronic. Buy only if you have money to waste.

Areas of improvement Better relaibility and free crane pick up service for failuer.

Styling, SpaceGear Box failure frequent with all Superb. Mecatronic fails which is design defect. I faced thrice

 

Exterior Very good exterior, bold styling.

 

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) All the features of merc E or BMW 5 and some of S and 7 series are availalbe. the space for the left leg for the driver could be more comfortable for long distance travels. plenty of rear space and comfort. very good telephony. comfortable seats. one touch memory seat adjustment is lacking.

 

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Exceelent pick up and smooth acceleration, however you can feel a turbo lag for a few seconds before it can take off puch you to the seats. Fuel economy of 10 kmpl overall is acceptable. gear shiftis so quick and effortless that you don't feel even a slightest jurk. It is capable of doing more than 220 kmph without any fumble.

 

Ride Quality & Handling Very smooth ride quality and handling is superb. automatic car is much more convenient as compared to manual one. there is lack of space formanual car for the left leg as both clutch and break paddles are very close and you shes tend to touch each other while using clutch and break simultaneously.

 

Final Words IT is the only choice with all the comforts of a super luxry high priced cars at much lower price. exceelent engine performance and output of 160 bhp is more than enough for Indian roads.

 

Areas of improvement Space for the left leg for driver.
