Final Words
I have used a brand new Skoda Octavia for 7.5 years. I always liked the car and had expectation that it would provide life long sturdy service as expected of a German car. Those expections were belied. The first problem was rain water flooding the firewall protection in front and filling up the entire passenger compartment to 3 inches of water! I accepted this as a non-technical problem and it was resolved by the Company learning to provide drain holes ini the Firewall compartment.
In the next 4 years, the airconditioning had to be CHANGED on advice by Gurudev Motors. Each time I paid Rs. one lakh fifteen thousand for this replacement. I learnt that I was a victim of a European car manufactured in India with uncertainties. The parent company never came to the front to understand these things.
Paradoxically I never had any technical problem in terms of engine, or gearbox or breakdown. However all the same Gurudev motors typically fleeced 10 to 20 thousand for each annual maintenance. I accepted them thinking it was in the best interest of the long term vehicle maintenance.
This year early in January ( my car was never exposed to the dreadful Chennai floods of last year), the car just stopped on the way. Gurudev motors towed the vehicle, tried to understand the problem by trial and error and finally told me to CHANGE THE ENGINE and that would cost Rs. 9 lakhs! Mind you, the vehicle was maintained in impeccable condition, just no accidents, and done just 35,000 kilometers.
It was a horror to realize that a proven European car could let me down and with absolutely no backing from either SKODA or from the exclusive monopolist service agent Gurudev Motors.
I felt totally let down and learnt a lesson that dont go by the hype of GERMAN PERFECTION. I have unlearnt from an assumption I had about German technology. And worst the Company did not have any qualms or any explanation whatsoever.
The only consolation was that Gurudev used car company agreed to buy it from me for Rs. 1 lakh/-. I parted with the car to forget it as a bad dream.
GURUDEV MOTORS ARE RUTHLESS, WITH A BENIGN FRONT. SKODA ARE JUST COLD BLOODED GERMANS WITH A BENIGN FRONT. IT IS MY DUTY to tell customers not to get carried away by the German hype or the blazing adveritsements of the new SKODA Rapid. My motive is not to malign the German company or Gurudev, however they showed no care for the customer whatsoever. Please see I have not coloured this narration with any subjective statements. This is for the help of the general public.

Fact is that in a span of 6 months the vehicle's clutch and gear box has broken down twice which reflects that either its faulty workmanship or the parts used had manufacturing defects. From the problems seen and reported by various clients, all point to the fact that the parts are faulty. Its morally unethical on the part of Skoda to demand half a lac from the clients every 4 to 6 months for this.
As regards fuel consumption, thats the only plus point that this vehicle has that too only the diesel version which is in though already in government cross hairs and expected to be banned in the near future.
Its upto the new clients to keep in mind that this is an inherent problem and needs to be fixed by Skoda before anyone thinks of purchasing Skoda Octavia in 2017, lest the Gear Box assembly is fixed by Skoda manufacturers. Till such time extreme precaution in deciding to purchase should be taken.
The customer service is not upto the mark. They commit something and then do not deliver on it and then argue to prove themselves as correct and can go to any extent to prove themselves right.

Exteriors are good lookig but get trapped by exteriors.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Good.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Has a very poor gear shifting from 2-3, 3-4 you have to drive at a speed of 60 km per hour in cities to feel a light engine otherwise strain all the the time between 2-4 gear.
Ride Quality & Handling IS GOOD BUT IF THE ENGINE IS NOT REFINED AND NOT COMFORTABLE TO DRIVE THEN WHAT IS THE FUN OF HAVING A GOOD RIDE QUALITY.THE SUSPENSION IS VERY STIFF AS COMPARED TO PETROL VERSION I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS HAS BEEN DONE.
Final Words DIESEL OCTAVIA 2017 MODEL AT, IS NOT A RECCOMENDED CAR AT ALL AT A PRICE OF 26 LAKHS. BETTER BUY SOME OTHER CAR BECAUSE SKODA PEOPLE AFTER SELLING THE CAR WOULD NERVER LISTEN TO YOUR EVEN GENIUNE PROBLEMS.
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TAKE A TEST DRIVE AT LEAST 10 TIMES NOT ONCE BEFORE BUYING DIESEL.DRIVE BETWEEN SPEEDS OF 15-25 AND FEEL THE PROBLEM DONT TAKE A TEST DRIVE ON HIGHWAYS OTERWISE YOU WILL BE MISTAKEN DRIVE IN CITIES BETWEEN 2ND -3RD GEAR THEN DECIDE ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE, I AM VERY CONFIDANT YOU WILL NEVER BUY THE CAR. WHEN YOU DRIVE THE CAR ,THROUGH OUT YOUR DRIIVING YOU FEEL THAT AS IF THE HAND BREAKS ARE APLLLIED AND YOU ARE TRYING TO OVERCOME THAT BY PRESSING THE ACCELETRATOR CONTINOUSLY AND ULTIMATELY YOU GET THE LOW BACKACHE. I HAD HEARD A LOT ABOUT THE VW DSG GEAR BOX WHICH SKOKA HAS ACUIRED FOR OCTAVIA BUT I AM VERY SORRY TO SAY THAT IT IS NOT AT ALL COMFORTABLE TO DRIVE AND EVERY TIME WHEN THE GEAR IS SHIFTED UPWARDLY THE ENGINE GETS FULLY RAISED AND THE DRIVER FEELS QUITE UNCFORTABLE UNTILL THE IS CHANGED AUTOMATICALLY. THIS IS FELT WITH EVERY TIME EITHER YOU CHANE FROM 2-3 O WHICH I SHOULD NOT BE THERE IN SUCH AN EXPENSIVE CARR 3-4 OR FROM 4-5 OR EVEN AT 5-6 GEAR SHIFTING IS STRENOUS AND IS FELT WHICH I FEEL SHOULD NOT BE THERE IN SUCH AN EXPENSIVE CAR.
Areas of improvement GEAR BOX NEEDS IMPROVEMENT PARTICULARLY IN DIESEL VARIENT PROBABLY SKODA LUANCHED THE CAR WITHOUT TETING ON ROAD,IN FACT 2013 OCTAVIA DIESEL ENGINE WAS MORE REFINED.
the plus point is it is fuel efficentgear shifting in diesel octavia is worst eithei 2-3 or from 3-4.you feel as if sumbody is pulling yoExterior/Styles
