Unique features in Fabia which are not currently offerred by many manufacturers in same class.
1. Safety:
Braking System: The car has vacuum assisted brakes, means when your foot is off accelerator, the engine vacuum assists the hydraulic braking system.
Engine-Drag Torque Control: While driving whenever the brakes are *to be* applied, the driver leaves the accelerator pedal in order to press the brakes. As soon as the accelerator pedal is released, the engine practically comes to a standstill, and wheels experience a sudden resistance to their rotation due to engine torque being reduced to almost NiL. At this time, the vehicle has a tendency to skid. Since the brakes have not yet been applied, the ABS is not in a position to prevent it. The MSR system, detects this, and if any of the wheels is skidding, the engine torque is increased so that the vehicle stays straing on road. This feature is absent in all ABS versions of all super hatch segment segment cars available in India.
Seatbelt Pre-tensioners: In the event of a minor impact the seat belt is tightened so that the driver and the co-passenger are pulled into the seats. This is very important as upto a certain level of impact the AIR BAGS are not trigerred and the work gets done only by the belt tensioner.
Air Bags: These are standard fitment in all versions of Fabia unlike these are present only in top version to other cars. (The i20 has a good feature here is that the Air Bags can be turned off atleast I don't know if that is there in a Fabia)
Engine Shear bolt: In a small car if the speed of impact is very high, there is a danger of engine flying into the passenger cabin. Skoda, has used shear bolts for engine mounts, and in such a situation the engine is dislodged from its mounts and dropped into the hood of the car. In no case the engine will land up in the passenger cabin. This is absent in all super hatches in India I know of.
Rough Road Package: The car comes fitted with a thick steel plate (with rust protection) in the floor space between the two wheels. This is a very strong plate and you dealer can easily show that the car can be lifted on this plate. This protects the car when the underbody rubs against a speed-breaker.
Electro Hydraulic Power Steering: This system, has an electric motor which drives the hydraulic pump of the power steering. While this makes the steering very soft when the car is still, or moving at a very slow speed (like when you part the car), on the other hand at high speeds, it helps keep the steering firm. This is very helpful, when you encounter a pot hole, at speeds above 100Km/h.
I have driven many cars as a part of my job with major auto makers. However keeping in my affordability, I decided to book a Fabia (Since company is offerring a discount it came within my Budget). You will notice that even some mid segment sedan cars like may not have *all* of these safety features together.
I examined a FABIA ona 4 post lift. The underbody seems very strong. The shockers have VW/AUDI Logo.
The car is yet to be delivered,.. however above features did compell me to book this car. I understand that the service cost would be around Rs5000 and the fuel economy might not be as great as Many other super hatches, however having seen few of premium wrecked cars as a part of my job I do beleive that safety is important for everyone including those, in and out of the car. The air bag repair cost I beleive would be around 2L plus, but belevie me the car's worth is proven if you are out unharmed (and in one piece) from a badly damaged car.
I was surprised that even the dealer was not aware of quite a few of the features above. he kept telling me only cosmetic features.
On the cons side: The engine is very refined, but is probably as good (if not worse) than Swift. The acceleration can be improved however. The troque delivery at low RPM makes city driving easier with lot less gear shifts. Personally speaking I really like the 4WD Swift - Suzuki sells elsewhere. However due to MSR the engine behaviour changes while retarding and this makes a difference. Swift and i20 appear much more heavy than this car though there is not very much appreciable difference in weight. i20 is expensive (slightly more than Fabia for higher segments). Honda Jazz the priciest car in this segment comes with a 90BHP engine, and is too much expensive considering the features given by Fabia, i20 and Swift. Styling is very good in Swift, UVA and i20. I beleive styling is a personal choice.
I will give more updates when I actually get to drive this. The dealer has not yet confirmed any delivery date.
-------------------------------------------------------------
100km update: So finally on 23rd Nov my car was delivered. Following are update as on date after clocking 100kms.
1. Height adjustable seat belts (very convenient to route the seatbelt from your shoulder and not you neck.
2. Crank protection : One cannot crank if the engine has already started. (This is important as quite a few times, we tend to crank an engine which is already ON.) This protects the starter motor as well as engine flywheel ring gear for damage and prolongs their life.
3. Brake groan noise was observed. (if you have a sensitive ear you may hear a groan noise, when the car is just started after applying brakes.
4. Lighting: The front light intensity and coverage is very good after FOG lamps are switched on with High beam for head light. The car has *independent* rear fog lamp which can be swithced on regeardless of the reverse gear.
5. City Driving is a pleasure - good low end torque
*The above comments are my personal views only and might differ from other's just like any body else's. I appreciate your patience and understanding while reading this.*

Exterior Fabia has best looks biggest in class Fog lamps, ( though they come in only top version), the bold new grill, the head lamps, its class has no match.
Interior Well Interior are again best in class. The plastic quality is as good as a high class sedan. The best in class boot space! It has very decent leg room even at back. Front glovebox, with illuminationis nice feature.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Gearbox is again is best is class, Engine is 3 cylender, its same eng as polo, so a lot new eng so good fule economy as well. May be 1 km less than swift & i20. Performace as well is very good. Yes the eng of swift is best in class though. Fuel Economy i am yet to study it of my own but i read reviews like its 12 to 13 in city.
Ride Ride hand handling is again best in class, just open the bonet or doors of fabia and swift/polo/punto/i20 u will come to know the diff. This is the car which gives u 2 airbags below 6 lak, 10 K corporate dics, so i call it value for money. You will feel like in Tank when u go even at 120 KMs.
Final Words I love this car & proud owner of this car. This car is for those who love driving & do not other for that 1 km extra mielage and love their beloved once than money. Its a class apart car. and reg the so called maint issue, u do service only after 15000 KMs unlike swift/figo/punto etc so cost of maint almost is same, also spare parts, well since June 2010 cost of spares has drastically reduced, eg Door was 21k now its 7 K. And finally A.S.S if u have a good dealer in your city, u will not get any problem, let me tell u Octivia is the best sold seadan, so many of them u see on road, I know many of Skoda owner with good A.S.S. so no worries at all.
Areas of improvement Rear Defoger is missing.

This leads to me to the doubts that the car was used for TEST DRIVE by the dealership and not a fresh piece that was supposed to be delivered to a customer buying a new car.
To add to my agony, the car came with the following problems right from day one:
After repeated attempts of speaking/writing to their INDIA Service Head, Mr. Sudhir Shrinivas, there is no solution provided. The Service Head flatly showed his inability to address the problem saying it as "Manufacturing problems can not be addressed by him". What about the false commitments then?? There is no answer...
There is absolutely no attitude to address customer concerns.. Moreover, they are just not responding to my concerns both via mail and phone.. I had spoken to their Global Headquarters at CZech and had written to their chairman. However, they have not reverted yet (after 5 days now)...
I am feeling completely cheated by Skoda India and do not know what to do with my car...
So, request all those who plan to buy Skoda to reconsider their decision and ensure they have adequate reasons to buy..
The brand for which I had passion for a long time has ruined my confidence on them with this experience..

Hey All,
I am a proud owner of a Skoda Fabia Ambient 1.4 TDI. I took delivery of the vehicle last week (24th August) and I have covered 500 kms. In these 500 kms, I am completely satisfied that my decision is vindicated. J Before booking the vehicle, I received many suggestions and feedbacks and few were against going for this vehicle keeping in mind the ASS and cost. But as soon as I took the TD, I was convinced and never looked back. My decision was backed by few of my cousin’s friends who own Octavia and Laura and are facing no problems with ASS what so ever. And next, the cost; yes, it is on the higher end, but as soon as you get into the car and browse thro its features, u feel that the cost is also justified. The comfort it offers is not in many sedans as well. It offers maximum possible comfort to both the driver and the passengers. The passengers in the rear seat can stretch their legs as if they are sitting in a sofa in their house. You feel as if you are inside a star liner cruising thro an ocean. It jus moves on and on. Of coarse the initial pick up is less when compared to other vehicles, but it’s not a car for race track (at least I am not using it that way). Once you get into the car, u feels that u have entered a different world, a world of your own. The dual color interiors make you feel special. There is lots of small storage spaces in the cabin to store your mobiles, purses and other stuffs.
Safety:
The dual airbags, collapsible steering and the sturdy build take care of the safety of you and your loved ones inside the car. The sturdy build is evident the way that the door opens and closes. Features like, antireflective rear view mirrors and fog lamps make your journey at night safe and comfortable. The defoggers, rear wash n wipe and the heated side view mirrors make journey in rains a safe one.
Comfort:
This car offers lots of comfort to the driver and the passengers as I had told in the introductory
Performance:
The performance is very good except for some noise and slow initial pick up. But as we cover kms, the noise will get reduced. And the pick up is really good once it crosses 2000 RPM. Since mine is a new vehicle, I have not crossed that limit yet. As far as the economy is concerned, I have not calculated exact numbers, but it gives me 14 - 15kmpl approx in city with 100% AC on and I hope it will give around 20kmpl in highways. I have not faced a single problem in my vehicle yet and I have an unlimited warranty for 2 years.
Other features:
It offers an amazing boot space (300 ltrs normally and more than 1000 ltrs with folded seats). Many said that the music system is not adequate, but for me its more than enough as my parents sitting in the rear are not interested in songs. As far as the cost of spares is concerned, it is on the higher end but hope the costs come down as skoda has opened its manufacturing unit near Pune.
I have lot more to tell, but i have run out of characters :(. Hopefully will let you know while responding to the review comments.

I own a Fabia ambient 1.4 TDI for about three months now.
The good things about the car is its build quality, interiors are simply fabulous, smooth car to drive, very silent cabin and the features it comes with.
The car is not underpowered by any means.I does 100 km/h in 14 seconds which is not bad for a diesel car.The car is not overpriced. You cannot expect the cost to be lesser if you see the quality of this product.
The only bad thing about this car is turbo lag.At low revolutions the car does not accelerate well enough but after 2000rpm the car jumps.
Anyone who is looking for quality in this range should go for this car.
Cheers.
Great interiors, spacious, silent cabin, build qualityturbo lag is evident
