Disclaimer : The opinions are my personal views after test driving the car for few kilometers.People reading this, please make your final opinion/decsion post evaluating all aspects on your own. I hold no accountability what-so-ever for your buying desicions.

      Exterior

Well, from external looks, this one is a good looking car. Not very, but just about good. The tyres, the front grill and also the the way, the spare tyre is attached in the rear. Red colur with black bumpers and side skirs are a good combination. The door opens to a certain disappointment, giving a feeling of very light body quality. This one is a CKD (complete knocked down) unit assembled in India, with a peogeot engine.

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

Its sad and bad. If this is the Dahihatsu Terios, (http://www.daihatsu.com/catalogue/terios/index.html ) the key still bore the famous DAHIHATSU logo (also sold as Zotye Nomad in South Africa, http://www.zotyeglobal.com/products.htm), which sold untill 2005, before getting revamped elsewhere in the globe, then, India has come a long way in having cars with good interiors way before 2005. Everything about the interior is not so encouraging. The instrument panel, the music system (looked like a assembled Delhi or Ulhasnagar piece), the steering wheel and the seats. The dashboard looked like a 3rd grade quality, which its glove box being worse than that of 20 year old Maruti 800. The boot opens as a door rather than a top opening hood. The boot space is nothing much to talk about.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

I drove this car for about 10 kms. The intial reaction of the engine is its noisy (diesel of course). The torque on paper seemed better than the actual drive. The engine was roaring and made me feel, as if I am driving a TATA Ace or something similar. The car (or should we call it 4X2 SUV?) has a body roll. After 90kmph, it was shaking and the road holding capability was extremely poor. Suspension was average and the steering was not so acurate either. Between the speed of 40kmph and 80 kmp, the car was OK to drive. The gearbox was poor. Not sure about the fuel economy though, but heard its good.

      Ride Quality & Handling

Ride was average and handling was strictly average. Nothing great to write about. The car, as written has a body roll and doesn't give a stable ride beyond 90kmph. The turning radius is good, as the wheel base is smaller and its a compact car.

      Final Words

If you dream of a new SUV 24X7 and for some reason and loosing sleep over it, don't like Tata and Mahindra, then you have no other choice but to look at Rio, as there are no other choice available in India at this price range (Well, the top end costing 7.3 lacs on road, is not something cheap, but a price tag below 5 lacs on road Mumbai for the top end, may attract more buyers). For me, its a not the kind of car you bring to India in 2010. Car buyers in India have grown many folds from Maruti 800 and Premier Padmini days. Also, I was not sure, after buying, if the dealer will have look at you as a existing customer to take care of your post sales service. I was promptly attended to by the local dealer, which was a good feeling, but still had the question in mind of post sales support. I guess, people abandoned FIAT (after their successful run with Uno and Palio) for many years, before accepting them partially with the launch of Linea and Punto. And the reason was purely post sales service, as they had no issues with GREAT cars FIAT made. If that was so for FIAT, then, Premier needs to get out of the Padmini and NE110 mind set. After all, RIO neither gave me a feeling of a GREAT Car, not a feeling of GOOD support.

Price is very competetive and i just love the pricing.
I am a big fan of Tata Safari but worried about its pricing.
all my reserch has forced me to believe that this is gonna be a golden apple every common man can afford and enjoy.
With more colors and a better interiors this SUV will rock.

RIO is a nice car in SUV clothing. It fulfills dream of affordable SUV. Call it "Nano" version of Pajero, Prado, Safari, Scorpio etc.

But what about the service network?? Any one at Delhi?

History of PREMIER Group. FIAT is suffering in India, inspite of very good cars.Reason: blunder created by Premier group after nearly 3 Lakhs initial UNO bookings. Till 2006 FIAT lost Goodwill more than anything else, with Premier (FIAT joined Tata only in 2006). Besides FIAT Premier also spelt disaster for Peugeot, Recall 309. Wish Tatas come up with similar product.

Presently, I will prefer paying 50-70 thousand more and go for SUMO Grande than trust Premier

I bought RIO Lx (top model) last year in may. it has been a pleasure to drive this car.

Exterior: Looks are amazing. once you look at it and you can not stop looking at it again. You will definitely be noticed.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort): Normal Interiors, well carpeted, reasonable leg space, and enough boot space. reclining rear seats which can be folded also.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy: Good Engine Performance & fuel mileage, Its satisfactory.

Brakes: this version has ABS & EBD for smooth & safe braking.

Noise: Not so noisy in comparision with other diesel vehicles.

      A/C: is effective

Ride Quality & Handling: it has all the comforts of big as well as small car. Can be best regarded as the most compact suv of the year. Over all its pretty cute vehicle in this price tag.

Final Words: Absolute value for money, you can definitely go for it and time to grab it is now. 😎

      Exterior

Walking past the Rio without looking at it is absolutely impossible, it is extremely eye-catching especially in this brick red and will definitely get one’s attention.Despite it’s square like dimensions this SUV manages to convince it’s buyer within no time, looking at the Rio from any angle will tell you that at this price, you can get something really handsome,it also conceals it self with dual tone colours which I liked(no body coloured bumpers). The huge wheel arches give the SUV a muscular look,it stands mighty on massive 205/70 R15 tyres aided by rugged Macpherson struts up front a five-link set-up at the rear. The Rio is planted with a 1.5 litre turbo-charged diesel motor churning out

65bhp and 14kgm of torque, snug proportions of the Rio will make it an ideal vehicle for the narrowest, most congested lanes of the city, piloting this SUV through traffic with power steering should be a finger-tip job, married to the 1489cc motor is a five-speed transmission.Though the thing that impressed me is the tail-mounted spare wheel which makes it quite different from anything else in the market.Doors shut with an impressive sound quality which ensures solid build quality and promising safety

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

Getting into the Rio can be defined as climbing into and not bending. It’s interiors are quite decent, not flashy but quite boring to look at,texture of the plastic feels cheap and not up-to the mark. The seats are well bolstered and offer good thigh support, there are certain areas in the Rio where the finish of plastic isn’t good,as you can see a few gaps here and there, like shown in the picture. The Rio’s floor on the inside is high and makes tall people’s knees reach the window, though, knee room is reasonably good, head room could be a problem for six-footers,up-front the dashboard design is simple and there is nothing too impressive, the grey panel integrated into the centre console is oddly fitted and leaves this to be a major eye sore inside the cabin, the steering felt good to hold and looks cute as well.Speedometer, odometer, tachometer and fuel guage are very ordinary and didn’t really catch my eye, although gearshifting should be a boon since the gear lever is placed nice and high, the pedals below can be operated with ease even in case of a short person as the driver, high seating position up-front allows you to have a commanding hawk-eye view of the road, buttons on the dashboard are just fine afterall, this is Chinese quality. It’s interiors are compact, cozy and can seat upto five passengers which sums up to a small car’s cabin capacity, isn’t that amazing?

      Final Words

A cute, compact and capable little SUV for premium hatchback money and a vehicle that you can actually take off-roading on a weekend with your family. All of this at an attractive price tag.

      Areas of improvement

       Plastics on the interiors.

Cute and compact designA little boxy to look at,poor plastic quality on the inside

My review on Exterior is - Impressive SUV look,

My review on Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) is - Good enough,

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox - Good,

My take on the Ride Quality & Handling is - Pretty Impressive,

My Final Words are - Super, Sexy, Trendy and Compact SUV or should I say beauty.

I think Areas of improvement for this SUV are - Engine Noise, AC Noise.

I see less cons and more pros of this vehicle. Over all this is a pretty cute vehicle in this price tag. I am sure they could have worked more on the engine noise part, but thats ok, I am sure things would get much better soon.

I would say, I love this cute and compact SUV on the whole.

Good luck and you can definitely go for it. This would definitely be the good value for money. The day I have driven this for first time, I had made my mind that I am gonna pick this compact beauty very soon. And now comes the time. The compact beauty will be with me in next few days.

Impressive Exterior, good Interior, Impressive turn radius, good bootspace, good hight n funky lookAverage plastic and bit noisy engine, but shouldn't be a problem for such a good price tag.

The RiO is now comes with Fiat’s award-winning MultiJet engine under its hood. This BS IV compliant, common-rail turbo-diesel engine generates a whopping 72bhp at 4000rpm. And gives you an unbeatable combination of performance and economy. No wonder, it’s used, under different nomenclatures, in nearly a dozen cars in this country! .It's CRDI engine  is an intelligent way of controlling a diesel engine with use of modern computer systems. CRDI helps to improve the power, performance and reduce harmful emissions from a diesel engine. Conventional Diesel Engines (non-CRDI engines) are sluggish, noisy and poor in performance compared to a CRDI engine. CRDI system uses common rail which is like one single rail or fuel channel which contains diesel compresses at high
      pressure.

The RiO gives you more! Fantastic looks with a tail mounted spare wheel. A diesel engine that won't empty your wallet. The fun of a rear wheel drive. Easy driveability. Fully loaded. At an excellent price..... An extraordinary combination!

      Exterior Good.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Seems quite good.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Haven't driven it.

Ride Quality & Handling Haven't driven it.

Final Words I liked it very much.

Areas of improvement They are not advertising it properly. Auto Car magazine doesn't even have Premier name written in its bracket when I tried to check Reviews, unlike Photos here in Carwale.com are perfect(44).  Its reasonably priced but slightly costly for a top-end model. They should thoroughly look after Sales  Service issues seriously n it would be like "Premier is back & is here to stay". Also they should appoint Dealer in almost every District which will make people think of buying as it will be very practically convenient for the customer if the Service Centre is in town only. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be a hit in India as many like SUVs but the kind of Traffic system & the congested Roads & Localities India has, one would prefer a mini SUV to an SUV which retains the qualities of an SUV. All the Best Premier.

Looks. Seems good overall. There is nothing worth not liking except certain opinions about the handling after 90 Km/hr speed.

Premier as an auto brand doesn’t require any introduction and Neither does the rio...love the power in the new diesel engine.I was in mumbai and took the rio for a test drive at the chembur dealer. The Alloy Wheels with ABS made me feel safer in the RiO and the drive is well balanced too! The car has an very easy gear and gave me the perfect feeling of being in a Suv.  The rio and even tried it on a uneven road the suspension soaks up most of the jolts as it irons out the shocks on rough and uneven surfaces.Although small the car did produce the kind of power i imagined with the new diesel engine. Also i liked the fact that the back seats were adjustable which gave it an upper edge when compared to newer vehicles in the market today. I like the RiO mini SUV !
