There’s an old saying in the automotive universe which goes, “There’s no such thing as too much power”, but there are times when it’s not too difficult to comprehend that overabundance of power can lead to bit of a mayhem or in this instance, a broken dyno.
The Tesla Model S is an internet hero and there’s no denying that. The insane P85D model, in particular, has a knack of showing up in the news every now and then.
Having embarrassed several Ferraris and Lamborghinis in drag races in the past, the Tesla has now turned to breaking performance testing components. Seen here is a black Model S P85D which is strapped onto a dyno, just like any other car but unlike anything else of its kind, the all-electric sedan manages to break the dyno belt.
The culprit here is the unreal amount of torque the electric motor produces – over 1100Nm in fact. To put that into perspective, one of the finest Ferrari road cars ever – the F12 Berlinetta, produces 690Nm of torque.
It’s the crazy amount of torque that lets the Model S get the better of most supercars and in this case, a dyno belt. Ouch!
