Every year, a five-kilometre stretch of Highway 75 near Idaho, US, is closed off during the annual Sun Valley Road Rally to allow petrol heads to go full bonkers with their machines. Of the three Veyrons which took part in this year’s event, a one of its kind 1200 horsepower Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse L'Or Rouge cracked 380kmph on the road course.
Though these models have a claimed (and verified, for that matter) top speed of 410kmph, hitting such high speeds on public roads without a lot of safety margin not only requires courage, but also a touch of insanity. While this feat might seem incredible, it doesn’t exactly come close to the 396kmph clocked by another one-off Veyron, a Super Sport Pur Blanc, and at the same event, last year. Despite going out of production, stunts like these ought to keep the hypercar’s memory fresh in our minds. Check out the video of the Veyron cutting through air at 380kmph over here.
