Autonomous cars have been in the news for quite some time now, thanks to experimental efforts from known brands including Volvo, Mercedes-Benz and even internet giant Google. Audi, however, is looking to take the piloted driving technology to race speed as it stages one of the most extreme piloted driving demonstrations to date.
Audi, in fact, has announced that it will unleash its driverless RS7 sportback on Germany’s Hockenheim circuit at race speed, all in interest of underscoring the potential of piloted driving technology. The incredible feat will take place next week and the concept car will drive autonomously to its physical limits with millimetre precision, as claimed by the automaker itself.
With its sophisticated sensors in place and guiding it around the race circuit, the driverless RS7 sportback will be approximately as fast as with a professional racing driver at the wheel. So far, tests conducted on the grand prix track indicate that a lap time of just over two minutes can be expected, and that the car should hit speeds of up to 250kmph.
Audi has revealed that the performance will be shown live on the internet on October 19. This is something surely not to be missed so make sure you take time out and watch the concept RS7 belt down the race circuit all on its own.
