How many times have you looked at a Hot Wheels scale model and wondered how it would be to drive a real car which looks so cool. While you still might not get a chance to do drive the car yourself, Ford racing has released a video of the Hot Wheels Rip Rod concept, ripping across a dry lake bed for your viewing and listening pleasure.
While the decals and its looks might trick you into believing that this is just another scale model, the Rip Rod is a functional full-sized hot rod machine. First showcased as a project car at the 2013 SEMA Show, the Rip Rod was designed and built by Mattel and Bandito Brothers. For this year’s SEMA Show, Ford Racing has breathed life into the machine with a pumped-up version of their 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine.
While the terms ‘1.0-litre’ and ‘EcoBoost’ might not make you sit up and take notice, the engineers at Ford Racing have been tinkering with the three-pot engine. These are the same guys that had managed to squeeze out nearly 200 horsepower from the engine for a Formula Ford car, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see similar kind of figures in the Rip Rod.
Ford has refused to divulge any more details about this new and improved Hot Wheels Rip Rod, though we expect more to be revealed at this year’s SEMA show, which will take place in Las Vegas, from November 4 to 7. Which such outrageous Hot Wheels car would you like to see as a full-sized model? Let us know in the comment section below.
