I know you were quite excited when you read “R6”. We have been waiting for years to hear something about the Yamaha R6 but unfortunately, this is not what you are thinking about. It’s the name of the new electric autorickshaw that has been unveiled in India by Terra Motors.
This zero-emission electric three wheeler will make its way to Indian market early next year. The Japanese company claims that if the R6 is being driven for 100kms per day, the yearly savings can come to around Rs 82,000, which is quite a big number.
The R6 can carry a total of seven occupants (six passengers and the driver) and can attain a maximum speed of 30kmph. The company claims a seven hour time for the battery to charge completely. An 80 per cent quick charge can be attained in two to three hours. The company says that the R6 has a tight 3.2 metre turning radius with a motorcycle-like handlebar.
The company hasn’t disclosed the price of the R6 yet, but we can expect it to be expensive than the regular petrol powered sibling. The main reason the electric vehicles are expensive in India is because of the battery which are usually imported from other countries. Terra Motors is targeting yearly sales of 10,000 units for the R6 and we hope they manage to achieve their target.
