Say the name Ken Block and two words come to mind – wacky daredevil. So, now I would like to tell you that there is someone else you have got to see and how the word ‘daredevil’ is just short of describing the man that he is. Meet R J Anderson – a 20-year-old professional short course off-road racer.
He is on his way to create a record. Correction, he has already created it. He has set a new distance world record for a jumping UTV. RJ Anderson reclaimed the world record for a distance jump in an SxS – and did so by clearing a death-defying 100-foot gap! He pulled off this stunt while driving (literally plonking!) a custom Holz Racing built Polaris RZR XP 1000 Side-by-Side on a custom-built track.
With his trusty sidekick and stunt partner – the UTV- he took on a 600-acre forest near Mt. Baker, Washington. The way he tackles the course is nothing short of jaw-dropping. The course, which seems much like an adventure ride, included more than 20 natural terrain and man-made works of (terrifying) art; multiple near-vertical drops; 100-foot gap jumps; stacked up timber; a truck carrying a load of logs; acres of dirt track; sharp bends and ends in what you can only equate to something called the ‘Well of death’ (Maut ka Kuan).
We could go on raving about this skilled young driver but here’s the video to know what we have been talking about.
While you pick your jaw off the ground, here’s some information on the man and the machine.
Anderson or RJ as he is popularly known, took to off-roading at the age of 14. It took a team of 10 more than a month to create the course and this video called XP2K, is shot as a second edition of the XP1K series, has secured some 1 million views already and still counting. His off-roader features Polaris ProStar® 1000 Muzzys Performance engine and custom Walker Evans Racing shocks. While watching the video there were moments when we nearly thought the suspension would snap or the wheels would just give up. But he proved us wrong. Whatever terrain,(hostile being the key word here) he might drive on, Anderson manages to do it without breaking a sweat.
