Usually newspaper reports will have headlines like ‘Car thieves strike again!’ or ‘Man’s luxury car stolen’. Recently we came across a different headline ‘Car thief stuck in car, gets caught’.
Yes, apparently the ‘car thief’ here forgot that in-car technology and security solutions have undergone a massive improvement. Thanks to the thief’s lack of knowledge of new-age car systems, the owner of a Renault Duster in Ghaziabad still has his car safe and sound.
According to a police official, quoted by the Indian Express, the man had got locked inside the SUV when he tried to drive it away accidentally tripping off the auto-lock mechanism. He had tried the usual way of spiriting away the car first.
The suspected man, police said, disabled the car's gear lock, steering lock and had disconnected its wiring. When he tried to hot-wire the car, he may have cut the wrong wire and the car locked in on the man, a police officer said.
But another report in the Hindustan Times says that police officials said the suspect was detained but as he seemed mentally unstable and Pradeep Tyagi, the owner, decided not to register a case, the man was set free.
The sight sure was a shock to the owner and residents of the locality. Unable to escape from his automotive prison, the man had no other option but to cry for help and that is how the deed was discovered.
Well, the Renault Duster sure has proved to be efficient in the safety department thanks to this man here. What about the security systems in your car? Is it time for an upgrade?
