If car designing is something you think you are good at then, Local Motors has just the task for you. The makers of the world’s first 3D Printed Car,Strati, have invited submissions for designing a lightweight and efficient car for the future.
Called LITECAR challenge, it requires participants to pay attention to two things - mass reduction in a sedan configuration passenger car that can accommodate five passengers and also pay attention to current safety standards.
While looking through the website, we did not notice a geographical limit restricting application, so all car designers and automotive enthusiasts in India can also prove their design skills. What makes this challenge all the more exciting is that the winner gets a $60,000 (Rs 3,738,900) prize out of the total $150,000 cash pool. And one also has the chance to put their name among the bright minds that changed the auto industry if your solutions works and the car reaches production.
According to Local Motors the goal of the LITECAR challenge is to identify conceptual solutions that are beyond the state-of-the-art in the area of (but not limiting to) advanced materials, structural design, advanced manufacturing, and energy absorbing mechanisms to enable future lightweight and safe vehicles. LITECAR is not looking for incremental improvements but pioneering solutions to tackle this problem. Participants are encouraged to comprehensively redesign the entire vehicle prioritising lightweight and safe designs.
You can include 3D renderings with your concept and more details about the challenge can be found on Local Motor's page here.
So what’s stopping you from becoming the next big name in the Auto Industry? So sharpen your pencils and get to the drawing board.
