Grown-up (adj) the term loosely describes someone who is no longer a child. But more often than not creative geniuses beg to differ. Their claim being that there is a still a child within each one of us and one only has to let it out. 60-year old native from Shanghai Xu Zhiyun comes in this category.
Age is not a deterrent for him and nor is his creativity crippled by age. His passion for handcrafting things has led him to build his own 60cm (23inch) long mini car designed with all the features of a full toy electric car. According to China Daily, it took Xu two year to make the car and it cost him 1,500 yuan (about Rs 15,426), but he claims the best part was the process of creating it.
Watching him astride the car on the streets of Shanghai one can see what a lot of youngsters today are missing out on – Passion. The creation might be 60 cm (23inch) long, 35 cm (13 inch) wide and 40 cm (15inch) tall, but in no way can it be mistaken for a toy car. The mini car has an engine, an accelerator, brakes and gear systems. Besides the basic machinery, it is also equipped with front and rear lights, a horn and a sound system.
Needless to say, this is not Xu Zhiyun’s first attempt at such work. He has even created a steering device for his television. Not many details are available about this mini car, but surely a trip to the neighbouring grocer’s need not be a chore for him anymore.
