…and that too at a petrol pump. A man with a crippling fear of arachnids decided to set fire to his tormentor but chose a very unfortunate place to do so and ended damaging the place. This is what you call a classic case of 'cutting off your nose to spite your face.'
According to a report in the Telegraph, this Michigan man used a cigarette lighter to kill the spider that he had spotted on the fuel cap of his car. The fire that broke out engulfed one part of the pump before it was contained through the use of a fire extinguisher by the very same man who started the fire in the first place.
The man, who started the unfortunate chain of events, miraculously escaped injury and serious damage to his vehicle as well. The only thing left was a gutted petrol pump.
Moral of the story: Pay attention to the sign that says do not use flammable substances at the petrol pump and also that is a very silly way of killing a spider; a simple rolled up newspaper will do the trick.
