How many have you seen the ad where a guy is reversing a car and expecting the small kid to guide him? The small kid goes “nahi lagray nahi lagray nahi lagray…bam! Ab lag gaya!”
With the advent of park-assist systems, gone are the days when one has to rely on someone to park his vehicle in a tight spot.
Our long-termer, the Hyundai Verna, surely looks sensuous with its fluidic design but still is a lengthy car. Lengthy cars are mostly difficult to park in tight spots, especially parking lots. However, thanks to our top-end sedan that comes loaded with several features, the parking assist system comes to our rescue. This includes a rear camera and parking sensors as well.
The Verna has a sloping shoulder line that goes up to the C-pillar and meets the roofline. As a result, the rear end is tall and the rear windscreen small compared to the other sedans. While the electrically operated OVRMs provide a good rear view, the internal rear view mirror doesn't really show much due to the small rear windshield. Here, the rear view is almost negligible and becomes a problem while reversing the car. This is where the park assist systems work in harmony and help the driver out of a tough situation.
The camera in the boot connected to the smartly integrated display in the internal rear view mirror shows a clear view of objects behind the car. They significantly give a crystal clear picture of the low areas and blind spots behind the vehicle. The sensors beep loud enough to warn even a deaf person that he is going to close to an object. The markings on the screen are accurate enough to guide the driver to maintain his line while reversing.
This system has definitely helped us in parking the Verna in tight spots, parking lots and even backing it up in places as close as we can. Unlike our car, most of the other cars do not come with this built-in rear-view camera. However, many after-market reversing cameras are now available at cheap prices. We suggest you too should add this functionality to your car especially if you have small children playing in your parking area. Some rear cameras show the road behind even when you are not in reverse. These can help your overall driving safety not just in the car park but also out on the road.
