Getting stuck in crazy Mumbai traffic is the last thing a motorist in the city wants. And if it rains heavily, lot of people like me avoid going to office or some home (if they are already at work) for reasons we all know. But a young techie might have a solution for you.
Khyati Majumdar has developed an app called “The Mumbai Monsoon Helper”. This application allows users to plan routes around the most water-soaked areas by providing current weather details, forecasts and maps. The information is gathered through crowd-sourcing. The Mumbai Monsoon Helper is currently in beta phase and would be rolled out soon. And this was possible because of Ford.
The American car manufacturer has initiated a program called Innovative Mobility Challenge, which is a part of Ford Smart Mobility. This program which is a part of their global strategy is an open-innovation approach to discover and develop mobility solutions around the world. In future, the Mumbai Monsoon Helper application will also include navigation around flooded areas by prioritizing recently reported floods and areas of receding water.
Other than Khyati from Mumbai, Utsav Shah from Delhi and Tristram Norman from United Kingdom are the winners of the India specific challenge. Utsav developed an app that reports an accident and people could volunteer to help. Tristram developed a software that allows health workers to use a pocket-sized fingerprint scanner to instantly identify a patient and link to his or her health records.
We wish them good luck for their wonderful ideas.
