How far are you willing to go to avoid a parking ticket? Most of us would rather slip that money into the policeman’s hand or pocket and quietly zoom off, but this man in Walthamstow, east London, miffed at his car being towed away decided to take matters into his own hands. He got into his car on the tow truck and reversed straight off it.
Difficult to believe, but yes, the unidentified man loves this silver Vauxhall Astra too much to part with it. The whole thing would not have happened in the first place if he had not illegally parked it .
While the car was being towed onto the truck, the driver of the car, jumped onto the platform, got into the car, reversed off the truck onto the road, reversed into the traffic and sped away, leaving a bunch of giggling schoolchildren and a couple of pedestrians to process what had happened.
One of the passersby recounted that the car dropped from at least three feet, the noise, he says, was deafening.
The footage was captured by one of Waltham Forest Council's parking contractors. A spokesman for the council said the matter had been reported to police but neither the motorist nor the car had yet been found, as it appeared the car was not registered to the man who was driving it.
A Met Police spokesman said officers had been called to an altercation between the runaway driver and parking officials and said four officers had gone to the scene in Hazelwood Road, Walthamstow. But they said that by the time police arrived, the man had driven off. The spokesman said efforts had been made to trace him but police were no longer involved as it was considered to be a civil matter.
Well, there you have it – This is how an unidentified driver saved his car from going to the impound lot. We certainly do not endorse this kind of reckless behaviour as it could have harmed the children or the pedestrians and it was an act of crime, but, we do marvel at the stunt he pulled in broad daylight.
