Eric Hoffer once said, “When people are free to do as they please, they usually imitate each other.” Looks like the Chinese took this quote quite seriously. They are known to rip-off some incredible cars. But you may think how can you just copy someone’s car design and sell it as yours. You will obviously be taken to a court then may have to pay a hefty fine, right? Well, that’s what the law says. In 2008, BMW lost a case against Shuanghuan (Chinese) because the latter copied the famous X5 design and called it SCEO (which is still on sale).
Just like BMW then, Land Rover isn’t happy that someone has copied the design of their most successful SUV, the Range Rover Evoque. Chinese manufacturer Land Wind has blatantly copied the Evoque design in their new car called the X7. The X7 is a carbon copy of the Evoque and will be sold for a price of £14,000 (Rs 10 lakh), which is almost two times cheaper than the Range Rover Evoque.
Land Rover is planning to take the legal route to ban the Land Wind X7’s sale because it violates the Intellectual Property of the Evoque. We seriously hope, the British manufacturer’s legal battle isn’t fated to end badly.
