One of the worst nightmares a car enthusiast can have is watching a car being pounded in a junkyard. In the name of “Operation Atlantic,” the USA government will put to rest about 100 cars. So, what’s so intriguing about this you ask? Well, these aren’t just any old junk or rusted machines instead, they are well kept classic cars like MINIs and Land Rover Defenders that were illegally imported.
In a crackdown of sorts US Customs and Border Protection in association with British law enforcement have launched this campaign to tear down every illegally imported vehicle in the country.
It is disheartening to see a classic MINI being ripped apart in a gruesome act which has also been filmed. The authorities claim the classic MINI had a VIN signifying it was a 1988 model whereas in reality it was a 2000 model vehicle. These cars were made of cheap quality parts and passed off as an authentic vehicle.
The US government might be right in its way to target illegally imported vehicles but their ways won’t impress car lovers. While how these vehicles entered their shores is unknown and if these vehicles were stolen from the UK won’t their owners be happy to see them back?
